I did high school and college sports but didn't really push myself aggressively in the off season, plus depression bullshit a couple of years ago in college that wrecked what little gainz I had and almost fucked my life. If I had a time machine I would tell high school me to do 5/3/1 and stick with it during the summers, but since I can't do that the best time to start is now. Hopefully I'm still young enough to build myself up and have a good long run.

I've done both. I'm a strongman trainee who happens to lurk here rather than a proper powerlifter. The hex bar is easier because its one solid frame with a good knurling. Farmers implements bounce around independently during the walk, are typically thicker than the standard barbell size and usually have no knurling.

Even in actual strongman, the frame carries (which are more or less akin to a hex bar walk, although still often with a thicker/less grippy handle) tend to be much heavier than the farmers walks. They're just easier to do.

It's not super hard, but it punishes you if you get out of the groove or misjudge your acceleration (its also pretty typical to set your grip very slightly behind the centre of gravity, which dips the front a tiny bit and gives you some momentum to get started). They're also quite capable of moving side-to-side depending on the exact handles and how they're loaded (a lot of them are at about the right width to have the plates on each one rubbing during the walk. God help you if one slides forward or back off the other one or you get a little less than straight forward and they start bouncing off eachother).

Like the other anon said, there's a wealth of information online. Technically you could be an awesome expert on squats with a 1pl8 1RM. Rather than ignoring advice, it's probably best to compare it with your own knowledge and other sources. The best help I ever got was from some guy on /r/powerlifting who had a 70kg bench video in his recent post history.
