Semi related to thread question I have for you guys. What are your staple meals? I'm 18 (almost 19) live with my parents, and don't prepare my own food or buy the food we eat. My mom works at an old folks home or something making food so she brings some extra shit from there and the sporadic buying of whatever they think we might be missing. What all around good foods should I try to shill them to start buying that wouldn't be too expensive? They're cheap as fuck. Maybe some good cheap protein source without added carbs or fats, I think for carbs maybe rice and bread for sandwiches would be good? And fats I'm honestly not too worried about cuz im sure with whatever you guys recommend and what I eat in my daily life will have enough fat. If you know foods that have mostly or completely unsaturated fats that would help too though.

>TLDR
Need good example cheap foods for protein/carbs/fats/nutrients that I can start buying and making meals with

my grocery list for tomorrow:

5 cans of sardines
3 packs of sliced chicken breast (150g each)
3 packs of sliced turkey (100g each)
4 packs of lowfat milk
3 douple packs of 0% fat greek yog (2x200g each)

1 bottle of agave nectar
1 pack lean beef (400g)
2 cans of kidney beans

Oats.
Chicken, brocolli & rice

>>38804372 is a good start, but for more general money-saving tips:

Set a weekly grocery budget, limit impulse buys, and make meal plans. You will save huge amounts of money doing this.

Buy meats when they're on sale. Meat will be the costliest part of your grocery budget if you eat it consistently. You can buy in bulk to freeze later or you can just eat shitloads of meat for a week.

Frozen veggies are good for nutrients and cost (though don't always taste as good as fresh). Eating seasonally can reduce veggie costs if you want to eat fresh.
http://www.sustainabletable.org/seasonalfoodguide/

Dry goods (oats, rice, etc.) that you can stock a pantry with are cheap, so stock up. Consider investing in a rice cooker that you can take with you when you move out. It's great if you get busy since you can just wash your rice and throw it in with some water and not have to worry about potentially wasting time scraping burnt rice from the bottom of a normal pot.

Reduce the amount of preprepared frozen meals and junk food in your diet, you'll be amazed at how much money it frees up.

Learn the sale habits of your preferred grocery store because they tend to go in cycles. If you want some Greek yoghurt and it's $6/tub today but you know that in a couple weeks it'll go down to $3/tub, you're better off filling the spot in your diet with something else and buying it at a better price later. Lastly, the clearance aisle will become your best friend, so check it often. I've found peanut powder (for additional protein in shakes) that normally costs $5/bag for 99 cents, pasta that costed $2/box that was 70 cents, and so on and so forth. I mostly shop at the 'expensive' grocery store (because I can jog there in ~13 minutes) and stupefy people I know by keeping my costs down to about $30/week.

Tell me more
>>
>>38811658
What is there to tell? Hard liquor has higher ABV (alcohol by volume), so you'll get drunker faster because there's a higher volume of alcohol in your bloodstream. To elaborate, let's do some maths.

If you take a 375mL can of 10%ABV beer, 37.5 mL of that beer are pure alcohol. Compare this with a 50%ABV shot of vodka. In Clapistan, a single shot size is 44mL. If the vodka is 50% booze, that means that 22mL of your shot is pure alcohol.

That means a single shot of 100-proof vodka has roughly 66% of the alcohol an entire can of beer does. Hard liquor is what you want if you want to go from zero to floor ASAP. You can get an okay 750mL bottle of vodka for about $10.

That said, I'm not as big of a fan of hard liquor since I stopped trying to kill myself with drinking. Beer sits better in the stomach for me and it goes with food a lot better than most types of booze. I like to bake a nice loaf of molasses-oatmeal bread and sit down with some beers while I work.
>>
>>38812098
>Beer with food
Absolutely disgusting

Just get wine, it's cheaper than beer too when considering the volumes

Frozen fruit and vegetables are more nutritious than their fresh counterparts (assuming the strain is good)
This is due to the fact that produce meant for freezing is usually harvested at the optimum time in their growth cycle.
On the other hand, fresh produce is usually harvested as-needed and is therefore sometimes underripe or overripe.

Doesnt change the fact that fresh tastes the best.

Of course you could just stick to seasonal vegetables or grow your own.

Most strains of vegetables have been selected for their speed of growth and their visual appeal rather than actual nutrition.

So yeah, get some good seeds or saplings and get growing.

oats
eggs
greek yogurt
assortment of in-season veggies and fruits (this week was summer squash, peppers, broccoli and tomatoes)
onions
potatoes
sweet potatoes
meat for the week + freeze if I'm running low and it's on sale (bought a couple whole chickens this week)
frozen blueberries
rice and beans as needed
canned tuna as needed
leaves for salad or sides (collard greens this week)

breakfast is usually oats+yogurt and frozen blueberries and an egg or two

lunch usually rice and beans + can of tuna and some of the vegetables, steamed

dinner usually just do baked meat + baked potato + leaves
or I'll make a soup or curry if I have hardier vegetables
and stir fry a couple nights a week

pretty consistent and I usually spend about $40 a week

I have way more of them in the winter when you can't get as fresh vegetables. beets and turnips and stuff

OP here. Amother day, another trip to the grocery store. I tried doing better than the OP picture.

Why do I go so often? I enjoy the walk trough my milky white Dutch town.

Why cheese? Because I'm Dutch.
