It depends on where you live
If you live in a small town, working for a gym is the way to go. You get paid hourly, so you'll get a steady paycheck whether you have clients or not. (Most of the time you help out with maintenance, putting shit where it belongs, and maybe some cleaning if you have a slow day)
If you're in a big city where you have the potential for lots of business, and think you'd be a good salesman, it's better to go independent and pay rent in a gym. Make as much money as you want.
