This is really more of a math thing or adv kinda thing but if you want an answer here w/ever. It honestly depends on what you want in life. Want a nice house in LA? You're gonna need more than you're ever gonna make so stop dreaming. You want a nice upper-middle class lifestyle with enough money to eat, vidya, drink and have a home gym? Probably somewhere in the 1.5mil. That's estimating though, and of course your investments and financial skills will alter that number dramatically.

Depends on your required living standards.

If you are happy to settle for an average no-frills middle class American lifestyle in a state like Florida, you can get by on the ~5% real return you're likely to get on $1.5m invested in high-quality US equities without too much trouble. To be on the safe side, $2.5m would be ideal.

This assumes, of course, that your primary residence is already paid for in full; no mortgage or rent, just property taxes.

If you want to have a pretty nice lifestyle, I would say $5m is the lower bound.
