So /fit/, what makes a grown male human a real Man?

Ive read the Way of Men by Jack Donovan and I like the approach to go back to the basic survival functions of masculinity and explaining it from there on.

But I want some modern examples of achievements a real man must reach to be considered one by you guys

To keep it /fit/ related, include some physical achievements

For me, I came up with this pretty basic stuff:

-Lose your virginity
-Get a real job/earn your own money and be self-sufficient
-Bench above 220lbs/100kg

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

Basic survival skills should be on there.
Watch bear grylls, then go practice it.

My mates couldn't even make a camp fire when we went out bush for a fishing trip/BBQ. They poured gasoline on it and the fire still didn't catch. I don't know how they even managed that.

Strength, in all senses of the word.

Mental, physical, emotional and so on.

That is the main thing that makes a man valuable.

It also pretty much leads into every other admirable trait in a man.

There is nothing in this world as useless and disgusting as a pathetic, weak male.

Just be able to stand up for yourself when confronted. Carry yourself with dignity when you need to. It's not like being a man is important anyway. Some of your biggest heroes are probably effeminate pussies anyway but they're still respected.
>>
The three rules to being a man is this:

1) Be independent
2) Be able to take on responsibility instead of making constant excuses
3)Be able to perform basic adult functions like driving a car, getting a job, taking care of a family etc.

That's it.

At it's most basic I would say strength in all it's forms. Physically rugged and capable, mentally tough and cool under pressure. You don't have to be super serious or a body builder, but be able to handle all forms of duress and challenge. If you can pick up a wounded man and find it easy to crack jokes at weddings because it doesn't perturb you, you're doing alright.

Everything else is icing on the cake. Survival skills, being capable of multiple tasks, being a learned intellectual. As far as the ideal man goes, I always remember that ancient guys like Socrates weren't just old geeks sitting around questions, these dudes were not only intelligent and analytical, in all manners of politics/medicine/etc, they were also fucking ripped, super healthy and ex-military, these guys were wearing armor and gutting people with spears. Badass.

>>
>>38642808
It depends on the person but I have a personal philosophy. I used to be anxious as well, had panic attacks in school like Tony Soprano if you've seen the show, just like that. Felt overwhelmed and irritated easily.

What I eventually realized is, no matter what terrible circumstance had ever befallen me, from minor setbacks like homework in school to relatives dying, I realized that EVERYTHING that had EVER gone wrong, had eventually solved itself. Nothing ever lasted because I found a way, eventually, to solve it, fix it, or get around it. So I thought, if life goes on, and we're all here for a temporary period, and all my seemingly huge issues were ultimately meaningless, why worry? Why exert emotion and focus on these tasks before me or these stressers? I shouldn't.

So I kicked them out of my head and focused on the now. One of my favorite quotes is by Ernest Hemingway, "the greatest gift any man could have is to learn to live in the moment", and this is a manly man, a guy who wrote, adventured, traveled, and lived. It's true too, I just focus on what's happening right now and try not to blow it out of proportion.

I went from an anxious neurotic to someone who is known by his friends to very cool under stress and pressure, seriously.
>>
>>38642343
No. As much as I disagree with modern leftist nu-male effiminate bullshit, politics have nothing to do with manliness. Anyone telling you that you should support and/or disagree with some political ideology because that would make you "manly" is using your insecurities to manipulate you as well as revealing that they have shit arguments.

Misguided political beliefs are destroyed through a combination of argument, evidence, reason and ethical deliberation - not by calling the other guy a "pussy". Now the other guy may very well be a pussy, but that is beside the point.

>That's pretty much it.
Are you sure? Are you 100% sure that as long as I ideologically claim to be right-wing, it doesn't matter how cringy I am or how many fedoras I own or how many times a day I fap to anime, I'm still "manly"?

>>38642928
I think your right if you say that politics and manliness are not connected in a way that you are only manly if you believe x

But i would say there are politic views/ideologies that tend to attract more manly man, ie conservatism/right wing stuff
Think Schwarzenegger, Eastwood, Gibson etc

>Jack Donovan

>>
>>38643058
>>38642928
Yeah it's actually not a coincidence, they have done lots of studies on psychology and trends from political profiles. Conservatives (mostly libertarians) tend to have more muscle mass, tend to have higher testosterone, and are more logical/analytic over empathizing, as well as being more independent over collective. Look it up, it makes sense too. Do you think Clint Eastwood in the good, bad, and the ugly would be more likely to be a libertarian or a socialist? lel
>>
>>38643058
Perhaps, but what those ideologies are is different in different times and cultures. In Europe and the US, sure, conservatism attracts more manly guys on average while leftists do tend to be a bit more beta. But if you look at Latin America or Eastern Europe, hard-core leftism tends to attract macho-men as well. And their leftism is certainly different, in attitude at least, from modern Western leftism. (Not saying that their right wing is beta, they're certainly not, just that their leftists tend to be more macho.)

yeah and even within Western countries. Think about the Democrats in Midwestern states versus Democrats in New York. Or in the UK Labour party voters up North versus Labour voters down south. I'm sure there's parallels everywhere.
The thing to remember though is that supporting a party isn't the same as being ideologically Left or Right wing. You might vote for the Socialist party because you're in a situation when it would benefit you, but you still might have a right-wing mindset.

no homo manifesto.jpg
25KB, 228x346px
>>38643094

essentially, yeah. as a full homo myself, some of his ideas are a bit cringeworthy, but do have some merit.

for example, he refuses to use the word "partner" or "boyfriend" to describe his lover, and instead uses "compadre" because he believes using the former two are adhering to a leftist social construct of gayness whereas the latter doesn't. he thinks the modern zeitgest of "gay" is attempting to co-opt and bastardize the heterosexual lifestyle, which doesn't apply properly to a union between two men, as it forces one into the role of the submissive or feminine instead of embracing the masculinity of both.

likewise, he doesn't really support gay marriage because the institution was made to support a family structure and secure the safety and needs of the woman, neither of which are needed in a gay relationship. while i personally believe dudes should be able to get married if they want to, i do agree with him that the idea of a man getting down on one knee for another man to be a bit bizarre, and feels inherently emasculating for both parties. keep in mind he's not lambasting gay relations altogether, but thinks that a gay relationship is inherently different between that of a man and a woman and even two women, and to treat them all the same is fallacious.

his main theme of androphilia is rejecting this modern idea of gayness being the shunning of masculine ideals and embracing of feminine ones, but also decries the superficial pseudo-masculine culture of the straight metrosexuals and gay subcultures like bears, claiming they're basically parodies of the masculine ideal and not truly masculine.

basically, he's a traditionalist conservative who romanticizes manual labor and just so happens to like man ass.
>>
if you have to read books on how to be a man, you're not one. Lol.
>>
>>38643101
True, but this is still within Western culture and with those associations - you think of conservatism as tough so you think of Clint Eastwood as a conservative because he's though.

But take someone from another culture with other associations; like my dad loves Eastwood movies, but he grew up in old Yugoslavia so his association was probably with people like Fadil "The Spaniard" Jahic or Sava Kovacevic or any other of the bad-ass partisan Communist warheroes who's wildly exaggerated escapades he learned about in school. An older latino might think of someone like Pancho Villa or Emiliano Zapata.

>>38643165
My point exactly. Today's Western leftists are numale betas for the most part. But older leftist used to be pretty "violence-and-bloodsheed"-oriented; even if one hates their beliefs, one can't claim they where the same as today's effiminate liberal.

Im somewhat torn between these two options since keeping on studying would be the seroius option, making career, earning money and shit

What would Conan do?
>>
>>38643805
lol join the military obviously. We're in peace time so I would suggest Navy or Air Force. Respect to the other branches and all, Army is decent because there are so many jobs, but everyone I know says don't even think about Marines, including other Marines lel. I'm joining the Navy myself.

It's just 4-6 years of bullshit with some fun on the side. Put your money into a savings account, take advantage of certifications and things like that, learn some technical skills, get lots of benefits, do a bit of traveling, and it's a done deal. Doesn't sound so bad to me.

The good news is everything you do translates over to college, depending on your schooling and credits earned. I mean it's basically made for people like you and me, "my life sucks right now and I want something to change".
>>
>>38643805
Join the military. My younger brother was miserable in college so he dropped out of college last year and joined the marines. Now he's in Recon training and seems super happy. He says he regrets not finishing college and becoming an officer but I remember how shitty he was in college so I doubt he would've been able to finish. His plan is to go back to college and become an officer so he can be a pilot then become an astronaut.

Just do what you want, but have a plan to provide for yourself.

In the same way most modern western leftists aren't very masculine, most modern western conservatives neglect plenty of intellectual positions.

Environmental conservatism is somehow now a leftist and feminine pursuit. Literally protecting your land, cultivating it, preserving it for future generations somehow is scorned by most conservatives. How do you expect to hunt, fish, or farm if you fuck up your land?

Sure, doing the right thing for the environment you live in can be economically costly or difficult. It's really fucking easy to dump a bunch of shit into a river and let that be someone else's problem in the same way it's really easy to eat a bunch of garbage, become morbidly obese, and then ask for government benefits because you can no longer work or take care of yourself.

Literally retarded. Here's a reality check: we are far beyond just basic survival instincts. Just being physically strong doesn't cut it. Try to quantify masculinity into any certain task is a futile way of looking at the concept itself. If you look at it that way then what inevitably happens is guys get in a pissing contest over who can chop wood the fastest of fuck the most girls. Also, masculinity can take on many different forms, from the warrior to the pious monk.

I would say that masculinity is a mindset, that of a leader of society. If you follow your testosterone, gut instincts and unique personality it will inevitably lead you towards some sort of conquest, whether that be martial arts, providing for your family or making beautiful works of art.

In other words, it isn't any certain "thing" you do, masculine energy is the driving force behind it. Try not to put the cart before the horse.

I just figured this poem will be quite relevant to the thread

If...
Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

Really, I think being manly is just having basic sense of manners and self-respect, and able to hold his own in socially tense situations.

>But I want some modern examples of achievements a real man must reach to be considered one by you guys
OMFG you're such a gigantic faggot.
>I have to suck everyone else's DICK before I feel like 'a man'
You're a man when you SAY you're a man, you useless jizz-licking little cunt, and anyone that disagrees with you gets punched in the nose, THAT'S THE WAY IT IS.

Now get out of here, you disgust me, Nu-male.

That was about to be me in about 2 weeks like 4 days ago. Trust me anon, I feel no different. It was fun, but not life changing

[Saul Williams]
...To manifest your dreams before you manifest your fears
To navigate beyond the treachery of self despair
To find the balance between all you sense and all you see
To find the patience and the strength it takes to let it be
To stand amongst the crowd and have the strength to hold your own
To throw away the pen and pad and simply be the poem
To rise above hatred to love through seeming contradiction
To seldom take a side and learn to compliment the friction
To bring about the change within that we can't live without
To shift and re-arrange ideals and learn to deal with doubt
To voice the victory and unlearn ways of self-defeat
To learn the value of, "Yo, fuck the words just ride the beat"
To leave the comfort zones of all you know to all you feel
To step beyond the void and realize the unknown is real
To re-imagine every obstacle as just means of honing craft and learn to laugh at failures funny dream

To not allow the worshippers to take up all the space
To dance at funerals and grieve when true love shows its face
To meditate upon the lesser things like hair and nails
To find new meaning in your freedom when your freedom kills
To walk the runway on the one day when you've lost your stride
To show your face when you feel more inclined to run and hide
To keep it gutter when you utter
No, it won't stop until the ones that point their guns at get got!
You're gonna get got!
Let these niggas get got!
Lying through the ?-top
You're lying on the have-not
You're gonna get got! Get popped, get Cocked
Let these niggas get got. Let these niggas get got!

I have a pretty solid image of who I think is a real man.

>be honest with yourself and others
>be open minded but not someone who doesn't have self formed opinions and morals
>be respectful
>don't depend too much on others
>be in good shape, you don't have to look like a greek god but be fit
>have a good and straitforward posture and attitude

It's pretty complex but unlike some other people I don't want to be exactly like other guys who are considered "manly man". I just want to be a better person.
