Who here lmao compression pants for running? Worth it?
>>
>>38637206
I wear the shortest shorts I own and the free cotton shirts I get from races. Fuck pussies
>>
>>38637206
I wear compression shorts. Feels nice not having sweat run down my legs.
>>
Nope, I wear cheapo Starter/Walmart brand shorts in the warmer temps, track pants in the colder day. Even after 10 years, they are still working good with no rips or anything.

>>38638728
>free cotton shirts I get from races
So you participate in shitty races?

>>38639203
I rarely have this happen. Maybe you should work on building up effort?

I'm fine. How is this connected to sweat dripping?

Can you guys help me? I wanted to do this half marathon so badly and I was following a training guide for it until yesterday when I was diagnosed with stress fractures in my ankle. It had been bothering me awhile, but I continued to run because it wasn't unbearable and I figured I just needed to power through. I was wrong and now I'm hurt. How do I not want to kill myself/not lose all my running gains? Thanks
>>

Crosstraining with elliptical and waterjogging.
>>
>>38640672
>>38640683
Water jogging is your best bet. It may seem goofy but a lot of elite runners use it for a lot of their training.
>>
>>38640683
Thanks, I'll look into water jogging for sure.
>>
>>38640716
Cool, I'll start doing some research. Thank you

What's a good time for 1 mile I used to run 5k before my workout but feel like I shouldn't tire myself out too much before the workout
>>
Physio told me I have ITB friction. Besides RICE and a few stretches, anything I can do to maintain my cardio gains? Trying to hit a certain level on the beep test for a job. Will rowing fuck up my ITB?
>>
Pls post, marathon training girl.

>>38637206
Always give up on running two weeks into it. Stopped for three months this time.
Actually going to stick with it for military reasons in December. Probably can heave my way to five minutes straight before wanting to die.

Whats the best way to increase running ability? Intervals? Ideally I want to be at two miles in 12 minutes but I'll accept 1.5miles in 12 too.

compression pants are more or less needed here due to coldness
I use them from late September to late March here (Finland)
because at some point it becomes too cold to run just in shorts, and eventually it becomes warm enough to run in shorts. in between I need more layers of clothing due to extensive heat/energy loss otherwise. (aka my balls freeze)

pic: todays run
pls no h8, legs were tired.

There isn't any hate in these threads except for trolls. Good job on your run.

Thinking of copping some compression pants myself what brands would u guys rec. something cheap
Just recovered from a nagging knee injury that started from having flat feet. had to spend $300 on custom soles and had to drop muh nike free's for ASICS

Would it also be a good idea just to start running on soccer fields into I get my form back?
Miss that runners high so much :(
>>
>>38640890
What app is that? Also, have you tried tracing your route on google maps to get an accurate meassure of the distance you are running? It just happened to me that I was sure I was doing 5k runs until I meassured the circuit at the park where I go to, and it turns out that I've been running 4,7-8 ish the whole time. It will depend on sat signal

I did "intervals" for the first time. Nothing too structured though, something like 2km warmup, 1km as fast as I could, 400m recovery, 600m sprint, 1km recovery, then repeat.

Running fast is a nice feeling
>>
>>38637206
I wear compression pants around my apartment like yoga pants but not in public
>>
>>38641883
Suunto Ambit R2, with GPS tracking set to 1 second intervals. Yeah, I have map, but not interested in sharing everything on /fit/.
the watch uploads the data to Movescount, where I can see that image. The watch interface can reveal same, but obviously checking your run is easier from a larger screen.
sometimes the gps gives odd altitudes, but 1m is still 1m when moving forward. (but sometimes it might measure me running on top of tunnel instead in the tunnel, due to signal bouncing maybe from the top)
>>

Yes. I run in them when it's colder weather. I also have nike pro shorts that have the tight legging underneath the shorts

Which shoes do you run in?
>>
I might get some compression pants after this thread, I've been running intervals every other day for a couple of weeks now, but I want to step it up to at least a mile a day. I've been running in some nonslip memory foam shoes, although they are heavy and meant for work, not running. Am I alright running with those? It'd been okay so far

I've started to run 6+ miles recently and just got a water bottle (I've been having to stop and drink from fountains before), should I only fill it water or is it advisable to fill it with other stuff? You need a pair of Hoka
>>
cotton shorts and a reebok training t-shirt, which is thin cotton.

Honestly unless you're running ha,f-marathon distances or you have some serious issue with your skin or something, I really don't see the need to spend money on anything fancy, you're just gonna sweat it in several times a week, and within 2 months you'll have washed it so much it'll be unwearable anyway, the only type of clothing you should be investing seriously in is shoes and possibly socks.
>>
>>38640793
Do it for more than 2 weeks

I actually wear compression pants in the winter. Very easy to slip on under jeans/suit and I never get cold.

I would highly recommend them, but I've never used them for running. However I probably would run with them in the winter.

should I run in the rain?? or will I get sick??

I wanna do my weekend 5k on Saturday morning but it's gonna rain.... what do
>>
>>38643754
try proper running shirts made of polyester.
I simply cannot downgrade back to cotton... proper running shirt is smooth, dries easily, doesn't soak as much sweat, is lighter and doesn't chafe. (yeah, I do run 10-20kms distance with maybe annual marathon also)

and boxers... cotton underwear doesn't last as well, nor does it minimize chafing.

Sure, if you run 1-2 times per week and below 10km distances, you might not need better gear, but anything above that and I suggest investing in proper running gear.

it is still one of the cheapest hobbies and excellent way to stay fit.
good shoes last 1-2 years and good shirts/underwear should also last 5-10 years. buy 2-3 shirts and a pair of boxers and you are good for a decade.
socks meanwhile wear out faster.
>>
>>38643953

Yeah I run 3 times a week totalling about 9-ish miles overall, so I don't need proper running gear, funnily enough I bought 15 pairs lf reebok training socks and they are awesome, not a single bit of wear and tear in several months, I wear the same ones during the day now just because of how good they are.
>>
>>38643352
I'm a red wings guy personally an 875 is really nice because its still a good 6 in of leather but it has a rubber sole ao its durable and comfy (tho i love my iron rangers to but thats an extremely hard sole so you might not like it for running)
Thurgoods is has a knock off of those and i heard they were decent. Whats nice about the higher up ones os theu support your ankles and your less likely to roll them which is what happened to 3 sods in my cross country team when i was in high school
>>
>>38643504
Nike Vomero - way too soft for my weight.
Some red brooks whose Name I don't recall, however they were not ideal either.

Those are Saucony Echelon 5.

>>
>>38643869
>>38644087

rain is fine, just dress properly
if you get cold, run faster.

and then instantly after finishing change into dry clothes or jump into shower.
as long as your body is pumping out heat, the rain itself is not an issue.
stopping in rain might be an issue however.

cold rain can be REALLY motivating when you want to run fast (and finish ASAP)

>>
I run a lot, like long distance, but best pace I can keep up for many minutes is 4min/km.
I somehow have trouble converting it to miles. Guess I could try a faster pace if I just run a mile, but dunno.

all the people here claiming those high mile times look a bit odd tbqh
>>
Tell me about your recent achievements /run/

I ran 5 miles in 40 minutes yesterday, it was the first time I kept up a consistent 8:00/mile pace over a long distance and it was surprisingly easy to do. Usually I start off at about a 7:30/mile pace and drop to 9:00/mile by the end. A lot of it is in your head, convince yourself that you can't run for a certain distance or at a certain pace and you'll never be able to do it.
>>
>>38645777
4 mins 20 second/km is 7min/mile, so you're doing pretty well
>>
>>38645870
Pretty well?! I can't even run a mile in 10... like, what the fuck is this bullshit. SURE I just started running like, a month or two ago and progress needs to be taken a bit slow to avoid injuries but seriously?!
>>
I can run semi-long distances at a decent speed so I thought I was pretty fit until I did some circuits today. Basically you'd sprint the width of a football field and back, do 15 reps of sit ups or press ups or whatever and then do it again until you've done it 9 times. After 3 I was struggling and only managed 6 in all, and then 5 on the second go after a short jog. How long until I can do this shit without feeling like I'm going to throw up? I warmed up beforehand and everything and it was a bit depressing realising how I'm nowhere near as fit as I thought I was
>>
>>38645915
Just that classic British understatement m8.

7 minutes to a mile over long distances is very good. Take it slow, keep your training consistent, increase the distance and the time will start to drop off.

If you havent eaten anything before you run then you're not gonna have much energy for it. And when you think about it, having around 400g worth of food/soda inside you seems pretty insignificant compared to your regular bodyweight and wont burden your running ability all that much. You can be a decent runner and still be 10 pounds overweight.

just stretch a bit, sleep well, relax, eat high calorie food like wholegrain pasta, do not eat anything new but keep eating stuff your belly is familiar with.
eat 2-3 bananas 3-4 hours before the run starts, maybe take a running gel before you start, and if needed take on every 5-10kms.

depends on the person, depends on the area, depends on what they look like. maybe I am being discriminatory, but the vast majority of people you see running topless do it for this reason >>38649927, not for any practical one. and a very large amount are also the type who only think they're big, and are definitely miles off it.

I do personally live in quite a cold area though, so it would be more reasonable if I saw you running topless in spain or greece or someplace; I'd think nothing of it really.

I thought you were meant to change your shoes every 500(?) miles or so?
>>
>>38654444

It's just easier for comparisons.

The difference between a 6mph and 7mph run doesn't sound like a lot but running for instance a 7 minute mile compared to a 8 minute mile instantly shows a measure of time (1 whole minute) which translates better for comparison.
>>
>>38655394
well yeah
I might run between 800-1500km a year, and I usually burn out shoes (even when rotating several pairs) after 12-24 months of dedicated use

probably bro science but I did hear it somewhere. Something about your body being too stressed and releasing cortisol, which has an effect of getting your belly fatter.

What he said was you'll still be losing fat, but just in different places. Your belly will keep fat but other parts will lose. So I suppose you'll still be dropping body fat if you decide to go crazy with your runs.

2xu is gay and shit. They're expensive af, but it's a good cop if you got em for 50 each. Just make sure they're actually fucking tight and do their actual job - compression.

Nobody ever said compression was meant to be comfortable. It isn't. I don't like it. But it does the job well and for me I can tell it prevents injury. Just don't get used to it and run with it every run, just use it for harder runs and wear at after you shower for a couple hours for quicker recovery.

So I've been trying to run for fucking ever, I do sprints and all the over bullshit but I can't even break 1430 in two miles, my average is like 1530 this is at my peak. Recently I started running and started tensing up my quads and I find it that I take shorters strides and more steps but It works better I am less exhausted when I run and just overall faster. My quads are killing me now but it did work.

I'm applying to join the army too, bad my interview this week, going to do the physical soon™. running for six minutes really isn't enough, the entry alone is 10:30 for 1.5 miles. you really need to improve on that asap.

otherwise you'll have to really up your expectations of what you getting in for, I mean the other anon was a bit melodramatic about it, but you should expect there's a lot more than just 6 minutes running involved, and if you get 'bored' at that I really would question your ability.

3 years later and few thousand kilometres later I then managed a marathon.

multiply that 3km by 14 and keep up a solid 6kmh pace and you will have a pretty good marathon time.

I don't want to sound all /fit/ estatting and whatever, but I was beating 15 minutes the first time I tried, and by really quite a bit too. I think the average person here would too, probably even you. I imagine you probably pulled up because it was starting to hurt, or was getting hard, but really you do have to push through that to improve. I fucking hate it, and still do, but really every time you attempt that 1.5 miles you should feel like absolute death by the end. every time I go for a pr run I can't speak for a good few minutes afterwards, and often can't even stand up properly. you've just got to get used to it, it does get better, but never gets comfortable.
>>
>>38667707
Brah, early this year I decided to start running, not having ran since high school 6 years ago. I went on google maps and found a route that was one mile long and went out to run. The first attempt I got half way before I stopped and walked it, the second try about three quarters, then after a few more goes I went 1.5 miles, then 2.2 miles, then 3 miles, then 4 miles, then 5, and today for the first time I ran for longer than an hour and went just over 8 miles.

It gets easier, it really does, but you need the right mental attitude, you convince yourself you can't run a certain distance and excuses keep appearing in your head as to why you're not up to it or deserve a break. When you feel like stopping, tell yourself that you're going to go just that little bit further, to that bush you see in the distance, or the next street sign, or the next lamp post, and then do it again until you've reached your goal.

It takes time and persistence but there's no reason you can't get there. My times and distances aren't breaking any records, but if you'd told me I could run 8 miles in one go a year ago I would have laughed.

>>
>>38670877
cold weather, wind suit with shirt and underwear beneath
and if even colder, add compression tights and marino wool shirt, wear light sport gloves and skiing-hat? (not sure how to translate)

curiously enough the feet have socks and shoes, whether it is +25 C or -15 C, the rest of the body however can vary between shirtless to having 3 layers of shirts.

for 5-10 C weather I enjoy having long sleeve shirt, another shirt on top, then tights and shorts on tights. looks odd maybe, but double layer is needed for me when it goes below 10.
triple layer starts around +4 C and below

If you've had a job where you walk on hard surfaces a lot without expensive supporting shoes/boots you can have completely fucked up knees and such which running will make you heavily aware of.

wait why do I need compression stuff for recovery? I've never used it in my life, should I start?

Who /minimal/ here?

I don't think you need it if you run as a hobby.

If you actually race or maybe wanna take it more seriously, then get it cuz every little advantage matters.
>>
>>38642699
Asic Gel Venture 5s. They were the best selling running shoe on Amazon so I bought it ~4 months ago when I started running. Didnt even get properly fitted but I've not noticed any problems with my feet thus far.

Run faster

>>38675538
The best distance runners in the world run either barefoot or with very minimal foot covering. It's not even close.
>>
>>38675585
That's cuz they were poor and didn't have technology.
>>
>>38675632
Idiot.
>>
>>38675585
You are not comparing yourself with a nigerian skeltal which genes mutated thus evolved to run long distances aren't you. Fucking hell you need to be at least 18 to post here you ignorant little shit.
>>
>>38675939
I'm right you're wrong. I don't have to convince you to feel good about myself. Fuck off. I'm 24 btw.
>>
>>38675990
You fell for a thesis that is not even 20 years old and still debated. It's literally like the juice detox, soup detox, atkins, paleo, etc. How are you not a kid mentally?
>>
>>38676036
Do you wait for peer-reviews before you wipe you ass or is your anecdotal experience that it keeps you from smelling like shit sufficient?
>>
>>38676074
Keep moving the goal posts in your favor, kid.
>>
>>38676088
Oh yeah, well, you're dumb and I don't care if you keep being dumb or not. Just fuck off.
>>
>>38676094
No, you fuck off back to leldit with your barefoot meme and learn to reed you little shit. And go walking you might hurt yourself if you run you motherfucking vibram shill
>>
>>38676141
Not that anon but I run marathons in vibrams and I don't get fatigued afterward. I used to be laid up in bed for days and some of my friends for weeks after even in minimal shoes. So whatever you want to say, you're a retard for saying it so authoritatively.
>>
>>38676172
>. I used to be laid up in bed for days and some of my friends for weeks after even in minimal shoes.

not everyone is a neet that can take off their life to just lay in bed because they're too retarded to buy proper shoes.
>>
>>38676172
What makes vibrams better though? Is it the way you land on your forefoot because you're running as if you're actually barefoot? I saw some video saying you instinctively land softer with vibrams compares to shoes
>>
>>38676172
Not him but I run 4 marathons a year. I'm nigerian btw and I train with something that looks like this >>38642699

Anyway, I get paid to spread the barefoot meme and now my village has a vibram sponsored water well runned by a vibram donkey so I can honestly say that they do the job.

I don't want to sound, as you say, authoritative, but as a nigerian marathoner I think I have something resembling a final word. Pls don't quote me but hookas or die trying. I hope to see you biting me and my wife's son dust on the next marathon that pays over 10k.

Literally some weird ass doc not understanding anthropological evidence. Doctors are the most ignorant people you'll ever get to know. They only know their specific shit, and follow protocols. Literally no thinking or space for being creative.

Every weird book you can find is allways written by a MDPHD
>>
>>38676202
Yes. It's the whole package.
>>
>>38676233
>nigeria

wrong country, kenyans and mo farah win everything, nigeria is a literally who country. and it's not even that poor, it's a pretty well developed state.
>>
Mostly recovered fatty here.

After 9 months of intensive running training.( 5-6 times a week atm) I will have my first competition ever at a local city competition.

Any last tips? Going for 5k btw.
>>
>>38641919
Are the 2xu's legit from there? Do they hold up and do the job?

Goodbye gains. Not like you had any in the first place
>>
>>38668799
This. Running becomes so much fun when you keep at it consistently. It's getting to that fun point that takes a couple months of real persistence, though.
>>
>>38671393
>using commas instead of decimal points
fucking slackjawed foreigners

also, nice time, anon
>>
>>38677999
But this is satire, and Niggeria fits the bill well.

Nice dubs-trips. Shame to see them wasted like that.
>>
Does anyone have any races coming up?

I'm debating running a 5K for shits and giggles this fall.
>>
>>38665469
Breh where the fuck are her legs

Did the artist get lazy?
>>
>>38681079
You need to try harder than that anon...
>>
I'm a beginner is it okay for me to run at 102kg or should I wait until im atleast sub 90? I dont want to damage my joints and knees.
>>
>>38681606
You should definitely wait.
Swimming or biking will be safer options.
>>
>>38638728
This. Run free
>>
>>38639869
either that or incredibly high level races
>>
>>38642699

What do I do if I'm drenched in sweat after my run and it's cold out? I've legitimately considered bringing a second shirt to change in because I typically walk for 20 minutes after a run. Scared of catching cold...
>>
>>38673236
Try to reevaluate your form. Personally relaxing my body when I run fixed a bunch of those problems for me
>>
>>38683385
the common rule over here is that run in clothes that would be suitable for n+10 C outdoor activities
say you hang out in shorts and tshirt when it is +25. that means you can run in shorts and tshirt when it is +15 without getting cold.
you wear a windsuit when it is +15. that means you can run in windsuit when it is +5.
you have few layers of clothing when outside at +5 weather. dress in several layers of clothing when running in -5 C weather.

and so on. use your brains and experiment, different bodies have different needs.
>>
>>38683385
I feel absolutely boiling after any run, t-shirt and joggers / shorts do me fine all year round desu
>>
Just got a motorless treadmill from a charity shop for £10.
How do I run on it without falling off or holding on to the handles for dear life?
It's angle is not adjustable, I've been using books to prop it up but still having trouble.
>>
>>38683900
I sweat when it's cold and when it's hot. It's as if my body doesn't discriminate.

I was more curious if there are thicker materials that absorb the sweat. Like the inside is dryer than the outside. I've got a running shirt that says it does that but maybe I just sweat too much
>>
should i run if i'm sick
>>
>>38685805
I run if I have a cold or whatever. Feels great afterwards.
>>
>>38681606
fuck that, get outside and start walking/jogging.

you'll build up strength.
>>
>>38685805
No you shouldn't. You need to eat light and rest so your body can focus on healing.
>>
>>38640793

Make a commitment to run with someone else.
>>
Anyone have any GOOD websites for running form?
>>
>>38639918
^ effort = ^ sweating
There's a little correlation
