What to do if I want to achieve hypertrophy and what to do if I want to achieve strength?
>>
Strength = Compound Movements = Barbell
Hypertrophy can be compound movements and non compound movements. Doesn't have to be a barbell. It can be a dumbbell, and even machines/cable machines.

Strength = Volume that allows you to only go up to 5

Hypertrophy = 8-12 repetitions

Just be sure to avoid 6 or 7 reps.

Whatever you do, avoid getting stronger. no strong people are big

the fuck does this actually mean. do gains literally not occur at 6 reps?
>>
>>38630845
No, 6-7 is the rep range black hole. Something about the load being too light for strength gains but too much for hypertrophy. 1-5 for strength, 8-12 for hypertrophy. 6-7 does nothing. This is why I avoid 8 rep sets. If you fuck up and fail the last rep, then you basically wasted the whole set. Just aim for 9-10 and play it safe.

Source? I can't find any source on that besides websites saying it is a mix of strength and hypertrophy.
>>
>>38631204
Fine, you go do 3*7 and see what happens.

Nice meme friendo
>>
Hypertrophy:
>high volume (10x10 per body part)
>high frequency (hitting the same body part 2-3 times per week)
>low intensity (finishing each set feeling like you could crack a few more reps out with good form)

Done on a caloric surplus, with 2 weeks of deload for every 6 weeks of this style of training

If you want to achieve strength hypertrophy is important. The more muscle you have the stronger you can be.

Competition strength is achieved through peaking and special preparation in the run up to a meet.

When you aren't peaking training for hypertrophy and strength are fairly similar. Plenty of volume, lots of compound movements and ensuring you are recovering well between work outs.
