If progressive overload is the main reason for muscle growth, why should i use techniques like supersets, drop sets, reps till failure etc.
>>

Adding more reps is progressive overload
>>
>>38568853
As far as i know, you need to get stronger to get bigger. Doing more reps doesn't make you stronger, it just improves your endurance, that's why 5 reps are optimal for size.
>>
>>38568833
because broscience
>>
>>38568994
Hypertrophy occurs at pretty much any rep range as long as you go to failure. Sets of 5 are better for improving maximal strength though.
>>
>>38569038
So strength doesn't result in size? Are you saying i can get big with doing loads of reps with light weight?

I thought size and strenght are proportional to some extent...
>>
>>38569094
>to some extent...

The other part of the equation is volume.
>>
So basically just lift some HEAVY ASS weights and everything else is bullshit.

Got it.
>>
>>38568833
Some people call them 'breakthrough workouts', because you're 'breaking through' barriers in your ability to perform, which spurs even more adaptation in your body. Otherwise you're just sort of a flatline.
>>
>>38569276
so how do i know when to use those techniques, and which ones to use?
>>
>thinking only way of progressive overload is more wheight

you obviously don't lift at all, welcome to /fit/
>>
>>38568833
progressive overload isn't only increasing weight

increasing volume, increasing volume per unit time also count
