Why is American weightlifting so terrible?

People praise Jon North, Donny Shankle, and the rest of the California crew, but none of these guys come even close to being as good as Klokov, Ilya, Akkaev, or Torokhty.
>>
Ameriga puts all its money in swimming. No support for weightlifting.
>>
>>38446477
best way i could put it is the western culture, dont know how to really explain it but they are fat, born onto ipads, and they all lift for girls. just the way a kid would be raised in the west as opposed to the east is a big difference that
>>
>>38446542
Hahaha.

Drop the redpill garbage. In the East most young kids fail because when they hit 16 they would prefer to go to clubs, get drunk and have sex with girls. Sheiko specifically programs so much volume so that by the end of the day you are so wrecked that a night out seems like torture.

We dominate the Oly lifting scene because we put our best into it. Your boys go into the NFL and basketball. Plus we train better. Compare ya boy Pomponio with Illya.
>>
>>38446564
After watching Ilya, Dimas, and Xiaojun it will be tough to ever be impressed by anyone else. Ilya is just too perfect.
>>
>>38446575
I think you are able to produce great athletes but you need to rework your whole system from the grass-roots level-up. It won't be easy and it would take up to 10-15 years to really start mass-producing champions.

I don't think you will, though. The lure of the NFL and NBA are too much for any young kid. Why would they compete in a fringe sport when they could be multi-millionaires?
>>
The USA actually tries to prevent their athletes from doping while other countries try their best to help their athletes get away with it
>>
Less roids + nfl getting our good lifters

iirc Shankle's best lifts are on par w/ Klokov but he got injured before he could compete
>>
>>38446610
Haha u fucking believe this?
>>
>>38446617
On par with Klokov's best lifts? Absolutely no way.
>>
>>38446610
This is true.
>>
>>38446610
>Internet logic
Your guys just suck. Deal with it or change it.
>>
>>38446610
just like america tries so hard to prevent its sprinters from roiding, right? oh wait.
>>
>>38446477
America literally won more medals in Rio for weightlifting than Russia
check mate
>>
>>38446639
NFL players dont train specifically to get their numbers up.
>>
>>38446477
Why were Brasilian football players some of the best in the world? It was a shithole were only sports _could_ give you some money.
Look how shit the economy in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, etc. is. If you only get 500$ as an engineer, you try to make it with modelling, sports or other shit like this.
>>
>>38446617
>iirc Shankle's best lifts

no the story goes that shankle beat klokovvv in a comp at arnolds in 06 when klokov was injury and just got sex after marry

but klokov weight 90 something kilos competing against 105 shankle

here they are competing

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mvRz3wqMBs

cant find the clean and jerks it used to be up on the same channel
>>
tbqh I think it's generally a pointless discussion that just gets everybody mad, but I remember someone talking about the russian model of success being along the lines of

>send out scouts
>find the most genetically gifted kids/teens in each region
>train them to the point where the weak/injury-prone/lazy ones drop out
>send best to national camps
>begin roiding

America's main problem is that people don't really care about olympic glory in categories other than the popular spectator sports like track, swimming, and gymnastics. The kids genetically gifted enough to be good generally get groomed for the NFL. CJ Cummings would definitely be in football right now if he didn't do weightlifting. Commisar keeps getting pressured to do football instead (or at least he was). The genetic potential of the US is IMO locked up in team sports where the money is

but half the russians were disqualified
>>
>>38446610
weak b8
>>
seriously though i bet if some of the top talent in the NFL went towards weightlifting instead we would have some good shots at medalling.

Unfortunately the NFL is way more lucrative.
>>
>>38449060
That can be said about any large enough country, though.
>>
>>38449090
idk man until you've stood toe to toe with an nfl player you don't know human potential.

these fuckers are huge and fast

and we have a lot of them.
>>
>>38449136
But surely any country with tens of millions of people will have at least 5 or 6 dudes with the right proportions, but like you said, not every country is interested in weightlifting. And it's not just about being big though, look at this guy, he's 4'8 and arguably the best weightlifter ever

all of the best athletes are playing football, baseball, etc.
those players are literal freaks, even a lot of elite college fb players would be very competitive in powerlifting/wl meets.
>>
>>38449406
>all of the best athletes are playing football, baseball, etc.
With you here
>even a lot of elite college fb players would be very competitive in powerlifting/wl meets.
But this is ridiculous. Maybe some local bull shit, but not anything close to national level
>>
nobody cares about oly lifting is the west, and who can blame us? it's an incredibly boring sport to watch.
>>
>>38449500
>it's an incredibly boring sport to watch
>Implying handegg, boreball and divegrass arent considerably more boring
>>
>>38449443
the top DL and LB are probably going to be hitting over 400lb bench press, squats in the 600's and power cleans over 350..

you can't deny that if those athletes trained specifically for strength and/or the technique required for wl they would definitely be competitive
>>
>>38446610
He is baiting, but the sad reality is that there is many people out there who believes this bullshit.
>>
>>38449548
boreball is awful, handegg is decent and football is AMAZING. all of them are better than watching a bald, fat, sweaty man lift 1kg more than the other bald, fat, sweaty man.
>>
>>38449500
You clearly didn't watch the olympics.

Meh. Russia's programs haven't been the same since the fall of the Soviet Union.

Corruption infests it like the rest of Russian society.
