Is there though? Because from schizophrenia to garden variety depression, it seems like medication for mental illness is a complete crapshoot at best. Just like transitioning, most treatments for severe disorders have pretty crippling side effects that still prevent one from leading anything like a normal life. It's really disingenuous to act like a schizophrenic can just pop a few pills and be hunky dory, it's a horrific illness and still pretty much considered the mental equivalent of a cancer diagnosis. And like cancer, and transition, it's anyone's guess whether the treatments available are any better than the illness itself.
No treatment for severe disorders is going to be pleasant, so it's pretty arbitrary to shit on transition as if it's any more of a trade off than anything else just because it's more physical and visibly strange.
Cancer patients' best legal treatment essentially eases them into thinking "well maybe dying won't be so bad after all", but because it happens behind closed doors it's easier to swallow (for the public that is, not the actual cancer patients - can't swallow much of anything with dat nausea). And because cancer is a more tangible killer, making it seem more reasonable to go through any kind of unspeakable hell if there's a minute chance you get to live longer, as opposed to disorders like transgender or depression where the fatality is 'self-imposed' by overriding the sufferer's instinctive will to survive.
