Can you make protein gains being vegan?
>>
>>38270874
You'll need to drink a lot of cum
>>
>>38270874
yea just eat 6k calories a day
>>
It's possible but the volume of food you would have to eat to hit your macros is so high most people would struggle to hit them.
>>
>>38270874
Yes. Gorillas are vegan. But they also eat like 40 lbs of vegetation a day, though.

You can eat nuts and legumes and, um, other things. There are vegan protein powders, too.

Not that plants aren't poison or anything...

You can get all the protein you'd want from a vegan diet, if you plan it in an extremely specific and unappetizing way, but like with all things vegan, you're making things unnecessarily difficult for yourself.

Fortunately with vegan bodybuilding, you don't have the choice to do otherwise.

this. You'd be eating such calorie and nutrient dense food, but the protein intake would pale in comparison to the carbs and fats. E.g., 100 grams of almonds = 21g protein (576cals), 127 grams black beans = 8g protein (114cals), 124 grams tofu = 10g protein (94cals).
I'd imagine it's gotta be somewhat miserable, but hell, you'd be reaping the benefits of antioxidants, mono/poly fats, fiber, and vitamins.

Like give a legit reason to go vegan assides from you being an oversensitive twat like 'muh animal rights', there's free range and biological meat too.

I can get vegetarians cause atleast they still eat cheese and eggs and shit but vegan is just a fad diet for people who used to be vegetarians for the sake of being better then others but then vegetarians became hip so these snowflakes needed something new.

You don't know a goddamn thing about biology do you. We test drugs on mice. Are mice human? A gorilla's muscles are made of the same shit your muscles are.
>>
>>38271043
You were one of those vegans who only eats fucking french fries weren't you.
>>
>>38275222

And you're just as retarded as the guy you're shitting on. Mice are similar, but do you have any idea how many drugs fail given trials after success in mice or even rhesus monkeys? To imply that because gorillas can get away with their diet humans could too is kys-tier stupidity.
>>
>>38275245
I didn't say "eat exactly the same way as a gorilla does and you'll get hench," I meant that we're made out of the same parts, we can learn things about ourselves from animals, the same rules apply to us.

Regardless, protein is not the thing you're missing with veganism, eat some broccoli or fake meat or that protein pasta or something. Vegans actually do, however, basically have to supplement with B12 because there is simply not enough for us in plant products, however vegetarians don't necessarily have to.
>>
>>38272115
Only morons eat nuts for the protein content. I've no idea where people got the idea that nuts are protein heavy

As for sources of really protein dense food, see >>38271151

I'm vegan and I ate 170g of protein yesterday, hit 2100kcal and that's just because I ate a pb&j as a snack. Would have been below 1800 otherwise, below even that if I'd skipped bread with lunch.

The answer is to eat lots of tofu, tempeh and saitan* - and drink protein shakes of course. Also vegan "mock meats" - they're delicious, packed with protein and make transitioning to veganism easier.

[*not a complete protein, however]
>>
>>38276135

>>
>PETA

the ethical veganism movement is fucking retarded.

>lets call people that eat meat 'murderers'
-they say with a shit eating smile whilst dressed in there leather bag and shoes, their office furniture made out of wood (when chopped down you destroy animals habitats) and held together with wood glue.

you can not eat animal products if you so choose, but calling other people derogatory names for there choice is hipictitical as fuck when you still use clothing made from animals, your whole house is made from meterials that when farmed, destroy animal habitats.

the only way to be a proper animal rights/vegan activist is to kill yourself, at least that way you can feed the earth with your plant based rotting body.

Vegetarians are faggots that put themselves through constant mild inconvenience.
Vegans stand up wholly for what they believe in, many times a day.

When was the last time you did something because you were passionate about it?
>>
>>38275163
i have arthritis and going vegan actually helped reduce my constant joint inflammation and has definitely slowed its continued progress. I used to be at the opposite end of the spectrum though, i'd eat 4-5 eggs, few slices of bacon every morning. I feel much better on a vegan diet than I ever did eating meat
>>
(Dried) lentils even have about 25g per 100g for example, so it's entirely possible. Especially if you use shakes as well.

It's just about eating a whole lot of stuff that tastes like nothing.

No, from what I understand it's not as bioavaliable (meaning you'll probably have to eat a bit more) but more importantly it isn't a complete source of protein (i.e. contain all nine essential amino acids). However you can sprout them or just combine with rice for a complete amino acid profile. But when that's taken care of, then yeah, plant protein is gainz-wise the same. Your body can't tell the source of the chemical, it doesn't magically become more powerful because it came from a once living sentient being; as long as you get all amino acids in you, it's the same for your body.

Also, I ALWAYS sprout all legumes, beans, peas, nuts and seeds and everyone should do this. Cuts down cooking time and makes it more nutritious. Yes, this does mean that I literally activate my almonds, but I can live with that.

Lots of idiots mistreat their kids and feed them crap. Even omnivores. It's an unfair comparison, since all diets can be done both well and terribly. >break cellulose down into amino acids
Nigga you cannot actually be serious. Do you have ANY idea how far these two compounds are from each other? Cellulolysis creates glucose like compounds that can be used for energy, NOT amino acids, you retard.
>>
>>38272168
http://www.nap.edu/read/10490/chapter/12?term=protein+deficiency#608

As outlined above, protein is the fundamental component necessary for cellular and organ function. Not only must sufficient protein be provided, but also sufficient nonprotein energy (i.e., carbohydrates, fats) must be available so that the carbon skeletons of amino acids are not used to meet energy needs (Duffy et al., 1981). Similarly, unless amino acids are present in the diet in the right balance (see later section, “Protein Quality”), protein utilization will be affected (Duffy et al., 1981). In the world as a whole, protein-energy malnutrition (PEM) is fairly common in both children and adults (Stephenson et al., 2000), and is associated with the deaths of about 6 million children each year (FAO, 2000). In the industrialized world, PEM is seen predominantly in hospitals (Bistrian, 1990; Willard et al., 1980), is associated with disease (Wilson and Pencharz, 1997), and often found in the elderly (Allison, 1995). Hypoalbuminemic malnutrition has been described in hospitalized adults (Bistrian, 1990) and has also been called adult kwashiorkor (Hill, 1992). Clearly, protein deficiency has adverse effects on all organs (Corish and Kennedy, 2000). In infants and young children, it has been shown to have harmful effects on the brain and may have longer-term effects on brain function (Pollitt, 2000). Furthermore, protein deficiency has been shown to have adverse effects on the immune system, resulting in a higher risk of infections (Bistrian, 1990). It also affects gut mucosal function and permeability, which, in turn, affects absorption and makes possible bacterial invasion from the gut, which can result in septicemia (Reynolds et al., 1996). Protein deficiency has also been shown to adversely affect kidney function, where it has adverse effects on both glomerular and tubular function (Benabe and Martinez-Moldonado, 1998).

Hardmode: No meat
Normalmode: Diet and Exercise
Easymode: Roids

Why make things more difficult for yourself for basically no reason?
>>
Things that you can't get with a vegan diet:

>omega 3s (EPA & DHA)
>B12
>amino acids like creatine, carnitine & taurine

Things that are much harder to get on a vegan diet
>Vitamin A (plant forms are inferior)
>zinc (absorption is inhibited by oxalate and phytate etc.)
>calcium (same problem as above)
>iron (same as above & heme iron is found in meat only)
>Viamin B6 (plant form is inferior)
>protein (plant forms except soy are inferior)
>>
>>38283840
You're also forgetting the soy protein + estrogen thing

The isoflavones in soy are proven to bind to human estrogen receptors. Of course vegans will deny this
>>
every vegan i know, and i know fuckin plenty, is an idiot and often lives a wildly unethical life in other regards (eg selling cocaine, using cocaine, smoking driving fuckin you name it whatever) but holds up veganism as a bastion of morality

not to mention they're also mostly shit people

Looks like they're arguing the edema of kwashiorkar is multifactorial and reduced albumin / other serum protein synthesis isn't the only mechanism responsible. Also "protein deficiency" is a "state of the body" and “low protein intake” is a more appropriate term, that kwashiorkar could be better described as a combination of excess non-protein calories with too little protein intake, in other words the percent of total calories coming from protein is too low. But these are just semantical games since reduction of non-protein calories to make intake 'non-excessive' would yield starvation instead. What was the point of posting this?
>>
>>38283975
i read that could actually prevent real estrogen from binding to the receptors, making it irrelevant. or maybe it was that since receptors were bound, your body produced less estrogen (meaning it didnt have to convert testosterone to estrogen, leaving more testosterone). it was pretty convincing. i think being fat is a lot more likely to give you high estro and gyno
>>
>>38283840

Fortified foods can have EPA, DHA, and B12, and are things you could easily argue people on any diet should take supplements for rather than rely on food (poor absorption, environmental contaminants, etc). Creatine, carnitine, and taurine are synthesized by your body, they aren't required in the diet.

>vitamin A (plant forms are inferior)

Beta-carotene isn't inferior, it just works definitely. Our bodies turn it into retinol as it's needed, whereas with pre-formed vitamin A our bodies have no way of regulating it and it can become toxic. Vitamin A is one of the reasons why Harvard doesn't recommend milk for calcium intake anymore, since they say preformed vitamin A can actually harm bones

https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/what-should-you-eat/calcium-and-milk/

Beta-carotene also has the advantage of acting as an anti-oxidant and helping to prevent things like cancer and heart disease.

Iron is another example of how the less easily absorbed form is better, not inferior. Non-heme iron is something our bodies can regulate so we don't get more than we need at any time. Heme iron bypasses our body's regulatory mechanisms, potentially causing too high a build-up of iron, which has been implicated in alzheimer's disease. Heme iron is also the reason why red meat is considered a risk factor for colon cancer; the heme iron is highly reactive and causes oxidative damage in the colon.

You should look into vegan diets, you'll get a better understanding of what you're talking about

Could you give me advice on some daily vegan staple foods i should be eating?
>>
>>38285767

Lentils, chickpeas, beans in general, oats, 100% whole wheat products, pumpkin seeds, sweet potatoes, leafy greens, fruits, nuts. If you have a health food store nearby, you can find fancier things. I'm having a bowl of green lentil/quinoa pasta right now. This stuff is the shit.
>>
>>38285843
None of those things are vegan. They're just foods.
Vegan implies an absence of food groups, not an inclusion.
You can eat meat and still eat all those foods.
You can live off candy, transfats and meth and still be vegan.

This is true, because people use words like retards, and say "vegan" when they mean "plant-based". "Plant-based" is the diet, "vegan" is the lifestyle (which includes not using animal products at all, like no leather or make-up tested on animals and so forth). In a plant-based diet, what >>38285843 says would be staple foods. Then again, they would be staple foods even in non-plant based diets if those diets are any good.

Hardest part of going vegan is having to learn new recipesin order for the food to taste good. Took me years of semi-vegetarianism and later vegetarianism before I was comfy going full vegan. Just learn to cook vegan stuff, look for vegan recipes online. You can eat vegan good occasionally even if you're omni, and learning how to make lots of good vegan dished should be done before one goes vegan and not after.

Dude this makes me want to go vegan just to make other vegans feel like shit for being worse than me in every possible way.

Without being vegan they think they have the moral high ground so their deficiencies are "covered" for some reason.

I want to make sick gainz and make them feel bad about being dyel. I got this idea when I was on an animal rights convention and I was the most buff dude there despite not lifting at all at the time. Like every guy had a pot-belly and narrow shoulders, pube-beard, most where manlets... one guy was kinda fit but skeletonmode.

I also never preach IRL because I'm literally trying to be the opposite of every vegan stereotype ever.

I'm vegan, at 6'1 200 right now and cutting.

My favorite vegan proteins are TrueNutrition 50% pea 50% brown rice, Sunwarrior Chocalate, and True nutrition 100% soy protein isolate choc fudge banana.

I eat lentils, tofu, tempeh, pinto beans, brown rice. I really like my progress so far, 4 years in. I definitely recover a lot faster, skin and hair are god tier like.
>>
>>38293298
>4 years in.
Nigger you look like me 4 weeks in.

t. 6'1 vegan
>>
>>38271043
That's retarded, 3,000 cals even of lentils equals about 234 grabs of protein. My scoop of protein is 27 grams per scoop and 109 cals. So even if you dedicated 1,000 cals to powder alone (which isn't unsual among body builders who rely on a lot of powder) that's 270 grams of protein with 2,000 cals still left to play with.

10 cliff builder bars 2700 cals and 200 grams of protein...

Protein isn't even a big deal being vegan, I actually have more trouble with fat but trouble I mean, like adding some olive oil or coconut oil to something if my macros are short.
