Hey I'm a noob, wondering how I can recover better.

I squat twice a week and my second squat is always weaker, squatting tues and fri. I deadlift on Monday and literally can't deadlift until next week at any sort of weight (I can only go to gym Monday thru Friday). Bench pressing is okay, but I'm still weaker the second time in a week.

I'm making progress, got to a 135lb squat for 5 sets of 5 this week, so I'm feeling good. But if I add 10lbs on Tuesday, I know I won't be able to do the same number of reps on Friday.

I'm asking for tips for recovery, because I know it's only going to get worse as I move to higher weight. I've been lifting like 8 or 9 weeks now. My deadlift in particular makes it hard to put on pants for days. I'm cutting but I'm about 25lbs overweight and a noob so feel okay, eating lots of protein.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Holy shit, switched from 4x upper lower to 3x full body and gains are thorugh the rooof. What kind of sorcery is this? Squatting 3x weekly, groove, techinique, comfy stance and and forward lean are locked down.

TM = less volume, faster recovery, harder workouts, skill tests every week, more customizable

Personally I'd recommend you go with Sheiko and just inflate your 1RMs as needed.

today I tried deadlifting with a narrow stance (a bit more narrow than shoulder width). It felt really fast off the floor and I felt strong with it. However I felt tightness/uncomfortable in my lower back. I filmed myself and it looked fine (no rounding) but then again the angle was kind of shitty so I don't know. So is it better to go narrow stance or should I go wider? I'm a bit unsual of a body type because I'm 6'4 and wider (I used to do weightlifting with a coach and I snatched with both hands at collars and even my clean and jerk grip was wide as hell). Like I said narrow stance felt really strong just a bit uncomfortable at first.

Most people pull conventional with roughly that kind of stance (just outside hip width, basically your horizontal jump stance if you ever do that sort of thing). Tough to say. Every one is different. I'm 6"2 and I find im stronger with a wider grip, but when I go narrower feet I get weaker. No idea why.

If it fried your back, it may be your lower back has never done much in the past and is now getting into a position to do more work.

It could also be just wrong lol. If you posted a video it would help. Ide be happy to take a look, but I might not be available until Monday night

I've always thought I was "too weak to run sheiko."
I looked at the spreadsheets and the workouts all seemed too light.
Fast-forward four weeks and I can safely say running Sheiko was the best decision I've made.

Here's what I did:
-> Ran ILL prep 1
-> Skipped the second rest day at the end of the weeks
-> Used my estimated DL max without inflating
-> Inflated my estimated squat max so that the 85% x2 on W4D1 was my 4RM
-> Inflated my estimated bench max so that the 85% x2 on W4D3 was my 2RM
-> Subbed W2D3 for W4D3 (both DL and bench)
-> Did regular bench instead of incline bench on W1D3 (using the bench scheme from W2D1)
-> Did front squats or clean + front squats instead of lunges
-> Did the good mornings for three weeks, then started doing clean or snatch pulls instead
-> Did OHP instead of pushups (sometimes I did BTN snatch presses or BTN snatch push presses or jerks just for fun)
-> When doing OHP I did 5x5 @RPE 7-8
-> Did closegrip bench instead of dips (light weights, @RPE 7-7.5)

I think that's pretty much it.
Have made ridiculous progress so far.

I'm currently on W4D3, once I finish this block I'll do the W1 of the IML program, just so I can test my 1RMs (I chose the IML here because you test squat+bench and then DL on the third day, while you test all three in the same day on the ILL.)

After I get my new maxes, I'm still pondering between running the same ILL prep 1 block again or trying the ILL prep 2 or IML prep 2 (the IML prep 2 has higher %s for the bench in some workouts, which seem pretty appealing. If I run the ILL I'll inflate my bench numbers.)

Thanks for the tips friend, I'm gonna start it tommorow and see how well it takes me as I honestly haven't been a huge fan of TM for the past few weeks. The thing that stopped me from choosing Sheiko before was that the intensity of the sets just looked so low compared to TM, which isn't the best way to judge a program I assume.

I never actually tested my 1RMs so I'm going to throw my numbers into a few calculators and take the average, and possibly inflate all of the maxes a bit to increase intensity.

What makes you think I haven't? Its a mediocre program. It gets props because you have a PR skills test every week, and its a simple.enough format you can Frankenstein it to shit and still have it 'work'.

Fact is, early intermediates will have a shitton more beneficial training experience if they cut the weekly peaking, and instead cycle volume blocks. But its not sexy to do volume and not add your 5lb increments every week, so people do an inefficient program that lets them feel good about themselves.

In the end what I got is a program that doesn't make me scared of failing a lift on a certain day, doesn't make me desperate to eat everything I can because I have a hard work-out next day, and still increased my max faster than what I was doing before.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I did 'AMRAP' twice for the bench, on weeks 2 and 4, and once for the squat, on week 4, but I didn't go to failure... @RPE 8.5-9
