Royal Mail postie here.

10 miles walking a day I average, with lots of stairs and hills.

Bad for leg gains. Great for supporting my fatboy appetite without gaining fat.

Lol! Your numbers a little off! At least for Chicago standards.

My entire life actually:

Marine Corps infantry

Railroad. Brutal work, 7 days a week, overtime is only 1.5. But it's the last stand for men in this country. You'll never see a woman on the tool side of the RR. NEVER. It's all white, lots of vets, and about as non PC as you can be. No place for pussies out here.

I remember an old timer telling me a story when was in a gang -what we call traveling constructions crews, out in WY. They had one black guy on their crew -good worker. An older white man pulled the foreman aside and told him, "If you bring that nigger in here again we're going to hang him." This wasn't that many years ago.

I made the switch to Elevator Constructors. Overtime = double time, jack of all trades, build cool shit, always something different, every trade rolled into one.

Look into either of these if you wanna stack some cash and do cool shit.

>tfw you wake up at 0400 and hit the gym before starting your shift at a 50 story skyscraper.

Canada here and labor jobs pay wayyyy more than fast food or retail minimum wage jobs.

>>
>>38052175
>and about as non PC as you can be. No place for pussies out here.

lol last job I worked at this white kid from mississippi would always talk about joining the klan and hanging this black dude to his face, but it was all just banter.
>>
>>38052196
Fuck yeah I'd lose my shit if I wasn't doing some kind of hard work. Sitting around drives me nuts
>>
>>38052166
>Now I do the dishes in a pretty fancy hotel/restaurant

my first job was a dishwasher at a local restaurant. I would get there around 4 and we would close at 9, but from around 5 until a little after midnight, I would be washing dishes literally none stop, while also putting french fries ect in the friar, or making salads and other simple things.

At least I was paid in cash and my boss would usually bring me a beer while I was alone cleaning everything even though I was 17
>>
>>38052169
U wot? Nobody would do labor except Mexicans for minimum wage, usually labor jobs pay 25 an hour where I live
>>
>>38052274
Yeah same, after everyone's done (the cooks, and the waiters aswel) everyone just has a beer. It's what keeps me motivated when I see a big pile of dishes or pans
>>
Who /hvac tech/ here?

>tfw labour job while at uni (for an events company, shit was pretty cash)

This thread, and some driving of a big construction vehicle thread some time ago, with the yearly incomes really make me think my life decisions.
I'm doing Computer Science now as its one of the better degrees in terms of pay, but fuck it if it doesnt work out, how does one actually get into a trade, and usually how long does it take to finish whatever course / training and start working for 6 digits/year?
>>
>>38052317
Fuck working a sitting job I'd feel guilty getting paid for sitting on my ass
>>
>>38052004
Manual labor =\= working out
There's a huge difference between carrying heavy, oddly shaped objects for 8 hours a day and doing a few movements with heavy resistance for less than 10 reps at most. You wont get 20" biceps from construction, you wont get a 400lb squat from walking up stairs all day.

>>
>>38052415

>>
>>38052410
£25k starting out of uni, salary increases by like £6k after 3 years, qualifications paid for with salary increases when I get them. Hours are actually really good as well for the most part, so plenty of time to keep active/workout

Grad schemes are pretty sweet

they wont last for too much longer and youre going to have to go back

>>38052274

>>
>>38052415
No but you'll still look better than anyone who doesn't work a labor job unless you eat mcdonalds all day
>>
>>38052064
I studied illustration and graphic design in college and got my BFA. I never intended on working in theatre but a local theatre was giving out paid internships right when I graduated, so why not? The TD saw I had an art background and put me in the shop where I learned carpentry and got to scenic paint on the sets. My job includes a lot of painting as well as building stuff. I make props too, and you kind of have to be a jack of all trades to do that job. So my drawing and design skills come in to play, plus it's a pretty physical job. Can't imagine my life working in a design firm, sitting for 8 hours a day at a PC.

I never wanted to act, too many egos. Haha. I do play piano and bass and compose but I do that for fun on the side.

Yep pursuing a PhD generally increases pay. Similarly, working in the industry for a couple years will increase pay substantially. i guess you didn't consider that, which leads me to believe you aren't even in college but rather you are interested in pursuing a math Ph.D. and have done limited research on other career paths.

be sure to get internships every summer. I got mine by going to hackathons and padding my portfolio with projects. be sure to reach out to as many companies as possible.

once you have an internship in your final summer its pretty easy to secure a full time job. know that recruiters don't know shit about programming so if you have a "cool looking project" or something with 2k+ stars on github or internships at other reputable companies you can get most things you want.

HVAC Cleaner at a massive Toyota Manufacturing Factory. I'm 18, go to college on weekdays, farmwork and house care after school, then 12 hour shifts at the plant on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. $11 an hour to fucking sweat my ass off and go to the gym looking like I got out of a battlefield. Would take me 2 years to get into maintenance at $16. Really wish someone would help me get into offshore or overseas work, anything with hard work but good pay cause I have a great work ethic, it's just my opportunities are limited and I don't know anyone. What do you think /fit/izens? I lift everyday and eat like a horse, but is killing myself with shit work right now worth it? I just want a job in the middle of nowhere with lots of meat to eat and iron to pump. Someone please halp.

Civil Engineer here, work with the contractor and listen to them.

But at the end of the day, the contractor has to build to your design, don't let them compromise it.

Question, why do labourers or anyone with a physical job have a tendency to die young if high intensity exercise is good for you?

Warehouse job. On year three now and I've gotten stronger overall. Forearms are thick, legs are solid. Fucked up an ankle tendon though.

I help build up festivals, defqon and that kinda shit. It's pretty good. Yesterday I worked for 12 hours, and now I'm resting at home... my traps are killing me haha.

You come to realize that being /fit/ is not just pullups, deadlifts and that kinda shit. There's a lot more to it.

I have a warehouse job, used to do a lot of physical labor, but since being promoted to supervisor, I do jack shit all day, seems to be the case with all supervisors honestly.
>>
Not really a laborer, but i work in one of the largest grocery stores in my country, and since im one of the taller bigger guys i get to work with stocking drinks. I lift several tonnes, walk around 25 thousand steps a day (around 15-20km) and drag around large ass pallets all day. Im exhausted all the time. I eat like 200 grams of nuts during the day but im sill losing weight. Don't do legday anymore except for when i have 2 days off from work, since im too tired and can't work after one. Help me bros, how do i find the motivation when i spend most of my day with my body aching? Or should i just stop going to the gym since i exercise plenty and wait 2 more months until school starts again?

I work in an Amazon warehouse. It's okay. Lots of lazy somalians that work half as hard as I do that get paid just as much.
>>
>>38059228
The supervisors at my warehouse make me so fucking angry. I'm over here busting ass moving packages and they just sit around and have banter at the water cooler and try to flirt up girls, and they get paid more than me.

Shit boils my blood man.

Most likely because they did what you're doing and now they can allow them selves to lean back. Because they've earned it.
Now shut the fuck up and get back to work.

I work in a warehouse but my shift is terrible and I dislike the mindless repetitiveness. Does anyone have any tips for getting into a good blue collar labor job? I don't mind fast paced hard work because all my hobbies involve sitting. I've looked into apprenticeships but they all take years and even getting accepted is difficult.

Used to work for a moving company. Now I make/deliver pizzas.

If you're ever thinking about working for a moving company, I'd recommend you already have at least a year of lifting under your belt. And have a bunch of ibuprofen ready.

I'm a clinical lab technician.
If I don't get things, people's lab reports won't come back, doctors start bitching, and then I'll get written up.
So yea, it's different than being a blue collar worker.

I used to work in a granite mine, i had to move to the middle of nowhere for this job and there was no gym around. I got paid a lot but i was working 12hr shifts 5 days/week and had to rely on energy drinks just to make it through the last couple days of the week. The work was extremely physical and although i think i gained some functional strength from this job, i couldnt eat more calories than i was burning in a day so as a result i lost gains. I didnt turn into a skelly but i was noticeably smaller than before i started working there.

After a couple years of that i moved back to the city and started cooking again, i make less money but i have time and energy to focus on training which makes it worth it. Also i can eat all the chicken breast i want for free.
