Is this natty?
Would you let your kid lift?
Yeah, so his growth is stunted and I can look tall next to him.

Body weight training until adolescence. The world is no better off with permanent manlets.

But what if he wants gains?

My kid lifts more than his kid

The strain on the bones does, at some extent. Just use correct form and light weights.

>The strain on the bones does
There is literally no reason to believe it does, no, sorry. Good form is important for kids for the same reasons it's important for adults, and weights should be titrated to effect.
Meh I would let my kid do what he wants. I would keep his diet in check, tho, and encourage him to do sports, but I wouldn't make him.

this is reasonable, and probably good parenting. I would really encourage sports though, even if for the social aspect so my kid doesn't grow up to be an autist.
I'd build him a jungle gym and treehouse and give him a bike to ride.
Then I'd do simple calisthenics and do some gymnastics stuff that looks cool.
Won't do it in a way that is agressive or make him hate it. But in a way that shows him how fun being fit can be and that he or she can do it too.
Would also limit their internet usage too a few hours and television usage to an hour as well.
kids need to play team sports

there's very good evidence that resistance training in kids stunts growth plates in bones.
BUT
they do very fucking well with calisthenics and tug of war and shit.
Once they get into some puberty, 13-14, start em on the weights.
