Machines are mostly isolation or don't involve muscle stabilization so you have to do more excercises total and have to take into account to train every muscle you might forget seperately. On the other hand you need the big 4 and pullups to hit all your muscles with compounds.

Not necessarily better for aesthetics but provided you know what you do, you can focus on what parts of your body you want to develop and thus end up looking more aesthetic as a result. If you just go heavy on compounds you might end up overdeveloping one lift and crapping out on others. The trex meme is not just a meme, you know.

i used to use machines when i started and i saw virtually no progress, i gradually switched to free weights and now i only use free weights and my bodyweight for dips, chins and pull ups. i saw massive aesthetics and strength gains after i started using free weights in both compound and isolation movements
