This was in my uni lecture
Is muscle tone a myth?
Were we all lied to?
>>37310803
>literally describing a pump
lol ok
>>37310819
Slide is labelled muscle tone
They were talking about contraction at rest. Like full rest, as in next day rest. Pump only last an hour or so max
>>37310803
Muscle tone is just the degree of leaness and density of the tissue, what they are describing is a pump.
>>37310846
A muscle can't be contracting when it's at rest, that's an oxymoron. The percieved increase in tone in the days after a workout is just inflammation.
>>37310803
Muscle tone in this sense is as described in the OP, just a residual amount of contraction in muscles, preventing people from going full ragdoll when they relax.
Not the same as meme buzzword used in situations like:
>I just want to look """"toned""""
>>37310819
A pump on the other hand isn't the contraction, so much as increased bloodflow to recently exerted muscles.

All you fags are just mad because your uni isn't 80% chicks
>>37310803
are you sure you didn't confuse it with "toned"?
>>37310846
So what your telling us, is your school is stating Muscle Tone as such:
When a muscle is completely at rest, meaning zero stimulus from our brain contacting it, will "pulse" with subtle contraction and the degree to which this occurs at is what the tone of the muscle is describing. Does that make sense to you?
>>37311185
Nah mate
They're saying the the more stress that a muscle has undergone, the more the actin and myosin will naturally overlap in myofibril
>>37311185
kek it's like you can't read
>>37310803
Jesus you guys are fucking dumb. Colloquially, tone is known as how much muscle is visible. In this case, "tone" refers to a "tonic" contraction, which is when a muscle is subconsciously contracted for various reasons. Like when your upper trapezius has knots and is tight? Tonic contraction. High tone muscle. Clinicians know
>>37310887
This is correct.
>>37311127

>>37310887
Medfag here. This is correct.
A basal frequency of action potentials travels to our muscles to keep them tonically contracted even at rest.
Loss of muscle tone (flaccidity) can be indicative of a problem.
Muscle tone is a real clinical term
"wanna tone up for summer" is retard speak
>>37310803
most people don't know what tone actually means, but it's just resting muscle contraction

Dude, it's okay if you want to be original, but atleast put in some effort.

I just think it's interesting that so many people on a Polynesian elephant ivory collecting forum consider themselves to be more qualified to talk about muscle tone than an orthopedic specialist.
HAHAHAHA ACU is a fucking joke of a uni
UQ master race here
>>37310819
that's not what a pump is.
