Try drinking more water, warming up better, resting a bit more between the sets, getting better sleep at night, having a small meal 1-1:30h before the training session... that sort of stuff. But bad days are gonna happen. Just don't let it get you down, remember you'll be stronger next time.

What I did for deads today, not including 135x5. Squats also went extremely shitty this week. Only got 280x4 when I've done 295x5. I drink a bunch of water before and during my workout, and I got like 10 hours of sleep. I also ate a decent amount today. I dunno what's up, considering my ohp and bench are going swimmingly. Maybe I'm just not used to doing as much as I am for lower body.

Absolutely. The biggest thing is to do something in those weeks. Even just some air squats and pushups 4-5 of those days will help significantly. If you can do active things like hiking or light sports that's even better.
As far as programming goes you have some options. If you're on a very simple, linear program like SS or TM I'd say just repeat the week you did before the week off. You'll acclimate again quickly. You could also use it as an active rest week after doing some max testing.

you think 1K is bad, try putting new tires on a 4WD tractor, or a combine. They can be as expensive as 15-20 K for a single tire.


And earth movers and mining haul trucks, like Cat 795F's and leibherr's are even more ludicrous, usually around 50-100 K for a single tire.

Your best bet is to go ask an actual farmer or some one who operates heavy machinery of that scale if they have any that are too shot to use they'd be willing to part with for 50 or 100 bucks.

Fatigue is a hard thing to measure but if you're struggling with lighter weights, it's always good to have a less is more attitude for a deload.

Mostly good. It can very frustrating and stressful and time consuming. However if you can get yourself to care about it and actually be competitive a about it like in a sport like powerlifting it can be very rewarding because there's plenty of room to grow and succeed (and you get money and status).

Just got back from Intensity Day, lads. I tweaked my left bicep last week and it's still a little shitty, so I dialed it down a bit.

Squat 1x3 495 (feeling good, didn't attempt a second triple because of my arm)
Paused Bench 3x2 325 (just did doubles instead)
Deadlift 535 and 505 for 2 singles each

Anyone ever get this nasty rugburn feeling on your hands from deadlifts? I'm not tearing any calluses or anything. Are my hands just dry or rough or something? After a few heavy reps they just burn like crazy after.

The way I understand it you just go adjusting your ID rep/set schemes and leave the rest as usual (obviously adjusting %s, if it's relative to your ID PR).

I myself have been doing 1x3 for 10 weeks and have stalled each lift about once (although it took me a few weeks to get my bench right). When I start stalling this I'll probably go 2x3, then maybe 2x2 and then back to 1x3.

I've done it twice now. I keep it to planned intervals, moving from 1x5 to 2x3 to 5x1 to 1RM over the course of 12-16 weeks. The first time I did it was when I started the TM after my first PL meet. My SQ/BP/DL went from 407/264/413 to 518/330/535 over the first cycle, and to 601/375/645 over the second.

The biggest adjustment is how you manage the demands of volume day, I think. It's easy to cycle intensity day, but volume has to be high to keep driving adaptation. When I got to 5x5 425 squats, I started some pyramid sets, so it would be 5 sets of 5 reps of 405, 415, 425, 435, 445 instead of 5x5 445 across.

Intensity Day takes about 2-3 hours depending on what kind of sets I'm doing. 5 singles is tough work, that's for sure. I try to keep rest time to no more than 5 minutes. If a rep is too slow and grindy, that will end my work on that lift for the day. You're right that the idea is to keep the work high, but you don't want to be taking any max effort attempts in the gym.
