I could buy way more food than that for 30 canadian dollars, which are worth about half as much.

Pound of butter for $3, 20 lbs of rice for $7, 24 eggs for $5, 20 lbs of assorted beans for $11. There's still 4 dollars left, you can spend it on meat or avocados or something good like that. If one used the $116 to budget food for a month, then a more balanced diet could be had. 40 lbs of rice and beans will last more than a week.

When they're in season I can get potatoes for cheaper than rice.

I grow basil, chives and hot peppers in my kitchen window, which costs me nothing but a bit of water here and there.

How can there be a family where no members are able to do any kind of work or provide for themselves in any way? Who would do that? I thought food stamps were supposed to supplement a household grocery budget, not pay for everything.

In Newfoundland I do a moose hunt every year with my dad and we split the meat. My mom taught my girlfriend how to cook with it all too, so it's pretty versatile. It's $45 for our license and about $130 for the weekend usually with gas and beer, and it gives us both enough meat to fill our freezers and give some away.
The other thing I'm lucky enough to take advantage of on the island is the groundfish harvest. I get a ton of cod every summer, enough to fill my other freezer. Between the cod and the moose I'm laughing for meat. My girlfriend likes pork too so sometimes she buys that, but I can't remember the last time we had chicken or beef at the house that wasn't takeout.

Weight loss doesn't have side effects.

It's the nicest, cleanest and easiest solution. But it involves a little bit of work from the patient. Landwhales cannot accept having to do work and so would rather doctors pump there already struggling organs full of drugs that may or may not work and any other prescription is just fat shaming by these privileged shitlords.
