Deadlifts. Or OHP because my shoulders are weak AF and I can barely press 95 lbs
>>
>>36950783
my least favorite is in a way also my fav, cause it's the one I struggle with the most, which makes me feel like it's helping me the most, but also infuriates me if I can't get 5 reps in.
OHP. only been lifting for three weeks, but I'm already failing at 35kg/77lbs.

I also don't care much for barbell rows, even though I can tell they're doing their job good on me.

>>
>>36950783
Anything where I have to risk my back to go heavy. Got a bad back, part genetics, part intense sports in high school and college. I love being strong but these days injuries make progress slow or push it back.

So that's back squats, conventional deadlifts, bent rows and cleans.

My heaviest cleans were in high school, so despite competing in college rowing and rugby I haven't been within 40lbs of my PR ever since.

I was thinking of adding some tricep accessories, friend of mine who's been in the game way longer than me says it's the tricep that's failing me, judging by where the bar is when my rep fails.
>>
>>36951042
Odds are good he's right. When you really start to get good is when you understand your weak and strong points in detail.

Form makes a difference too. A wider grip will put the onus on your delts and traps and less on your triceps.
>>
>>36950783
Squats, the bar on shoulders really bothers me.
>>
I used to dislike benching
But I was doing it the wrong way (shoulderblades not squeezed, back not arched slightly)
>>
>>36951071
proper form is something I try to be as careful with as possible. can't tell you how many times I've watched videos of proper form on all my exercises, always put my grip at shoulder width, so I think I'm better off trying to improve my trips than changing the form for now.

I'm a complete idiot though, any must-do tricep-exercises I should focus on?

>>
>>36950783

>>
>>36950783
I used to love rowing.

Then i started having sharp pains on my lower back, and rowing only made it worse. I cant figure out whats wrong with my form, so i started hating these. Fuck, not even deadlifts hurt my lower back. Fuck you, yates rows.
>>
If I really dislike something I don't do it but out of those I do I would say OHP because I can't seem to get the form down. I have APT so even when I'm carefully braced I still don't feel my spine being straight and I'm never perfectly stable. I also feels like I'm cheating with my lats when doing high weights. I won't mention the weights I use because most of you guys got there after 2 months and I've been doing this shit for a year but that's another issue.
>>
>>36950783
Pretty much your pic.

Yate's rows kill my lats harder than anything else, but I feel like it is at the cost of my lower back.

Chin ups just kill my arms before my lats really start to give out

If you guys are having trouble progressing on a certain lift try changing the order in which you workout that day. Like if I was having trouble improving on my triceps I'd start doing them first for a week or two just to change it up and confuse the body. None the less good luck to all.
>>
>>36950909
Try this simple 3 step plan for success
1.Ignore the other DYELs giving you advice
2.train push press!!! Use symmetricstrength for a goal based on your ohp.
3. Do your 3rm, then superset it with a couple push press (try to avoid going to failure), adding more sets at a lower rep range (so like 4x3 instead of 3x5)
>>
>>36951440
>confuse the body

>>
>tfw ohp has already been my easiest lift

Hit 1pl8 pretty easy, while bench is only around 180. Can hit 3pl8 deadlift on a good day. I'm weird I guess.

what would you expect a non lifter to be able to bench or dumbbell press their first time in the gym after that long.
>>
>>36951511
Yeah, you have to swing and support your arms, and if you're totally untrained your delts will grow if you start doing any running.

If you're sprinting hard and frequently, your delts will grow.

handstand pushups. use a wall to help if you can't do a handstand, do them over and over until you can pump out 10 in a row and you'll easily put weight on to OHP. also, proper form is a huge part of it. I stalled on OHP and corrected my form just slightly and broke through.
>>
>>36952367
Dude what

Pretty sure dumbell rows engage different muscle groups. You can dumbell row shitloads but if you have a shitty core you won't be able to pendlay row much at all.

>Pretty sure dumbell rows engage different muscle groups.

I can barely do 2 pullups and I can Pendlay 1pl8.

Of course it's a different movement regardless of what dumbell variation you do but unless you want to do bent over barbell rows in the power rack you need to build your back up somehow.
>>
Deadlifts.

Every time I do them, I feel like I'm doing them wrong.

Power cleans

Whenever I struggle with my form in the gym I can always rely on asking someone there to see if it's alright. Except power cleans. No one knows how to do fucking power cleans here. And that's probably the lift most easy to fuck up form wise.

I think I'm going to really cut back on the squatting. I used to be fat and I ran it all off. I got these big fucking thighs which look a bit ridiculous on my manlet frame. If they get any bigger I'm going to go full SS Centaur. Deadlifts and running is all I need for legs. If I lost muscle mass in my legs I'd be fine with that.

Squatting

I don't give a fuck what people say, big legs on guys look FUCKING RIDICULOUS.

There is nothing worse than having big thighs and the rest of your body is just 'normal' proportions.

You look shorter, thighs rub together, normal pants no longer fit, and you basically shut yourself out of the trendy, aesthetic clothing market.

Also guys with a huge ass look fucking stupid. It just looks so bad.

Sure, you're strong and functional, but at what cost?

This is why I stopped squatting. Unless you have genetics that let you have strong as fuck legs but they still look skinny, don't squat.

I did bodyweight before gym and my OHP was the fastest growing exercise. I started at 50 pounds and now am at 100 pounds. 9 months later.

There's no platforms at the right height, no rubber plates, the staff gets pissed whenever people put weights directly on the benches, and for whatever reason there is only 1 wooden box at my gym, but it's at the perfect height.

And because if I want to stick with this exercise instead of doing substitutions, I need to make a fucking pyramid out of other weights until I hit 1pl8 my current least favorite lift is: barbell rows.

Gonna do db rows for now, but the next time I see a wooden box at the right height somewhere I'm buying or stealing it, then donating it to the gym, this shit is just stupid.

if you don't have serious anatomical problems or arthritis, or like a medically damaged ACL, squats will make your knees feel amazing if you use proper form. I used to have really sore throbbing knees 24/7 then I got a job where I wasn't standing all day and did heavy squats and the pain is gone.
>>
Barbell hack squats, I used to do them for extra quad gains
>>
>>36950783
Are these a meme? They feel absolutely terrible no matter how you do them.
>>
Lifts that I like:
Rows, chins, deadlifts
Lifts that I would like if my form was better:
OHP, bench
Lifts that are shit:
Squats

Who wants skinny legs? Thick, solid, tight joocy legs is what you want emo boy.
>>
PENDLAY

and OHP because im pussy
>>
i too really hate rows that involve standing

it just feels so unnatural
>>

Use pillow
>>

>>36960274
rows are pretty meme-tier
lats? only 50% of the ROM (compare it to a pullup/chinup)
rest of the upper back? only if you row high into your chest (aka no lats involved, just do facepulls or some other scap retraction based exercise)
>>
>>36950828
>cycle
me too bb
>>
>>36962126
So if i do chins, facepulls, and lat pulldown i don't need to do rows?
>>
>>36962140
I do
>weighted chins 3x6
>chest supported high row 3x10 (scap retraction with focus on traps/rhomboids
>reverse cable flies 3x12 (focus on rear delts)

I do weighted chins three times a week
high row and cable flies twice
and ofcourse deads for traps/erectors
>>
>>36962180
oh and if you want bigger lats just work adduction (usually overhand and slightly outside shoulder with) based and extension based (usually shoulder width chinups) exercises more to focus the main function of the lats and vary in volume/intensity
>>
>>36950841
you can do croc rows instead I guess
>>
>>36952759
or you're just fat and out of shape
i bet you're over 12% bf
>>
>>36950841
That's because you're a weak faggot that don't strengthen his lower back with deadlifts

Literally kill yourself
>>
pullups no question, im badly proportioned for them, im overweight a bit, they suck badly for me, i haven't done more than 12 for over 2 decades now
>>
>>36950783
Bench fucking Press.

The more I learn about it and think about it the more I hate it.

It's a completely unnatural movement that requires expensive (if you get good quality stuff) uni-tasker equipment and it's the single most dangerous barbell lift. It's the only one that can kill you if you miss a rep, and even if it doesn't kill you it can fuck up your shoulders.

The only reason it exists is because there's still no good way to do weighted push ups.

Got to be OHP, Its so fucking frustrating, one day perfectly press 50kg 5x5, next time i go to do it I can barely get 5x4 on 45kg. Seriously, wtf OHP.

Although I still enjoy doing it when I can actually put up some heavy weight. Just got micro plates as well, so fucking on it.

>>36951437
Hemorrhoids? :^)

>>36951437
I think you mean:
"I have begun making excuses for my lack of discipline."
>>
Front Squat...

I did crossgrip for a few months, but now, the bar doesn't stay on my front delts without slipping.
>>
>>36950783
goddammit I HATE pendlay rows. I always feel like I'm doing them wrong.
>>
>>36951690
It's more likely your delts that are lagging than triceps. Try high-rep dumbbell shoulder presses; I'm doing 5x10 on bench day and my OHP feels great

Actually, literally everything discussed is a meme.
>>
>>36958110
There are other types of barbell row ffs. You don't have to do Pendlays just because SL5x5 told you to.
>>
>>36950909
Speed sets have worked really well for me. I do a heavy day for OHP and then an assistance day.

Heavy day is a max triple, then 2x5. Assistance day is 10x3 with 60% weight plus bands, performed explosively.
>>
>>36950828
i hate squats, leg press all day
>>
>>36950783
Any barbell row variant, and the snatch.
>>
>>36950909
Get fractional plates. 5lb jumps on presses are too much at a certain point, gotta go up slower.
