Yes it will help you fall asleep. But using it to self medicate is always something to be concerned about. Also, know that in some rare instances, Marijuana has been shown to uncover underlying psychoses.

I had a mate who had some serious deterioration to his mental health not because of weed, but it certainly added a lot of fuel to the fire.

Consider talking to a doctor about it before you make any calls friend. Hopefully you live somewhere where they aren't totally paranoid and crazy about pot.

Sorta. Cuckols laid it out pretty well for power lifters.

I went from a shoddy 150 to a clean and fast 165 in two weeks. First squat of week 3 and I almost hit 170, depth was suspect so I'm not counting it.

Mostly I believe it's because I'm just getting good at near maximal attempts. But there's gotta be a strength increase too as my back off sets are increasing nicely too.

It's a great program and I will run future cycles of it, but you HAVE to do prehab or you fuck up your shit. Its a different type of program, so do your own research and decide if it'll work for you. 50 lbs in 4 weeks is pretty good to me

And a squat is a squat. Both high and low bar are slow movements and the different styles both tax the body and its ability to recover similarly.

I can do the first requirement fairly well, but the second one is way outta my reach. When keeping proper spinal extension I can't even reach 90degrees because my hamstrings won't let me (I guess that's why?). What can I do to improve flexibility? What are some god-tier stretches?

Some smaller (or at least shorter-torso'd) guys use a tapered belt for deadlifting because a full-width one is too wide and tends to interfere with the movement.

This can also be solved by having someone else put the belt on you so the buckle is behind you but that's kind of inconvenient if you don't have a fulltime training partner.

Powerlift is not a professional sport. It is something people do alongside their day jobs. Ray Williams is a football coach. Blaine Sumner does something. Mike tuchscherer is a stay at home dad and before that was in the army (?)

Weightlifting, outside the anglosphere is a pro sport with a history of professional coaching and nationwide talent scouting and development. They are a better class of athlete.

That is the principle reason they could dominate powerlifting. Nothing to do with how they squat or whether their sport is better.

What are you basing that on?

With bm proper, for oly lifts, you go up until you miss. You then evaluate why you missed. Technique failure? Try again. Strength failure, do back offs. No real way to grind things out when weightlifting.

As for squats things are a little different. All information I can find says, like I originally did, that they weren't an all out, maximal effort.

Have you any experience actually training bm? Or worked closely with someone who has?

The original Bulgarian method - as in that used by the team and preached by Ivan, not the more modern approach used by a lot of lifters - had no truck with this daily max or technical max stuff. You went up until you missed on squats and on the comp lifts. Sometimes until you missed five or six times on the same weight.

crossfit gym is my main gym now. Its wonderful. And yeah the benches are shit but there is one thats not bad. I discovered if you try to bench on a narrow bench you lose tons of stability.

Other than that though its freakin great. It can be hard to find a crossfit gym that has open gym though.

I ask because I always wear my belt around my belly when I squat and I think that might be why it pitches me over when I get in the hole.

ANYONE WHO SQUATS LIKE THIS READ

All shit aside benchbro, the most glaring flaw in your squat is a lack of glute, hip, and shoulder flexibility, which leads to improper bracing and a weak core

look at your hips when your squat begins. They start out neutral, and break into an anterior tilt at the top (reverse buttwink) and end up overcompensating for your inflexibility at the bottom (regular buttwink)

To fix this:

Stretch and roll shoulders and chest. For stretching shoulders, get a pvc pipe, put your hands on it in a snatch grip, and rotate the pipe over and behind your head. This exercise is USELESS unless you keep your scapula FULLY retracted, your core braced, and your spine neutral. Many people flex their spine, shoulders, and toes, and end up stretching nothing (that transfers to squat form).

Glutes should be rolled and stretched, hips can get away with just stretching.

Make sure you do your mobility warm ups, and then when you actually squat, ensure that your bar is properly positioned on your traps and that YOUR ELBOWS ARE POINTED DOWN. chest/shoulder tightness leads to hunchback form at the top of the squat, which compromises core stability.

Make sure your ENTIRE core is straight (like jon hax), and that your ass is as flexed as possible. THEN begin the squat by rotating your feet out and HINGING (NOT BREAKING) at the hips and knees simultaneously

I don't know how fat you are, but your "belly" is definitely too low to wear your belt if you mean "belly" as lower abdominals, near the pelvis.

breathing into your stomach is a meme. It's not meant to be literal, it's a cue to use your diaphragm for a deep breath. you'll notice when you breathe "into your belly", the muscle that does the work is actually right under your ribs. you want to wear your belt as HIGH as your ribs will allow, to let the diaphragm brace more directly against the belt
