Centrifugal force is very much "real" in rotating frames such as the surface of the earth. In an inertial frame it does not exist, but in an accelerating frame there is a component of radial acceleration(basically gravity) which depends on angular velocity, which is generally denoted as centrifugal force.

From a non-rotating point of view it doesn't exist, but since we are rotating, it modifies the attractive force towards the earth's center.
