Anyone can explain what the difference between a "good" and "bad" metabolism is. So is there any reason that someone who consumes the same quality food, has the same weight, muscle, height and gender can consume the same amount of calories per day without gaining weight?
bonus points for scientific based answers.

There is not reason because it doesnt happen
Some people like to pace rooms, others like to sit on their ass all day.
Some people take stairs, others take the elevator.
Some people cycle to work, others drive.
Some people leave bits on their plate, others lick the damn thing.

Well, I shit twice a day. Once during the day and once again before I sleep. I'm very lazy, pretty skinny and have low appetite. When you add on top of this fast metabolism, gaining weight is pretty difficult.
Compare this to my friend. He shits once a week yet is massive as fuck.

Last time I bothered researching it, barring any medical conditions and accounting for height weight etc, metabolism varies around 10% at most.

You are talking about basal metabolic rate, or the amount of energy a body requires at rest to do all the things a body does; like breath, punp blood, digest food, etc.
It decreases as we get older, and is generally higher the more fat free muscle mass a person has. You will not find two people the same height, weight, age and muscle mass who have significantly different BMRs unless one is seriously ill. It's cloud cukoo fattie-speak.
I stand all day at work and move heavy chunks of metal around all day... I go to the gym for 1.5 hours per day 5 days a week. I eat clean... I eat like 4000 calories a day to slowly gain weight.. currently sitting at 158-162 and stopped gaining.. am only 5'9"... I am super fucking active all day every day... some people just sit around and complain about muh slow metabolism.. ur so lucky anon... its so fucking basic yet people can't accept it..

yes, the basal metabolic rate was what i meant.
But the is the "illness" you are refering to a hormonic thing or something that is genetic?
So if my body has a good metabolism i have a high basic metabolic rate... does that mean that my body is not capable of turning food efficiently into energy or does he simply generate more heat or smth?

I mean like cancer.
