Don't face pulls work the rhomboids and lower traps more than the ski slopes? I suppose if you were pulling the cable almost straight up they would, but at that point it's basically a vertical row.

So I noticed a prevalent opinion on this board is that lifting for aesthetics is dumb. Another one is that zyzz was a pretty cool guy.

If you have these two opinions how do you reconcile them?

Snatch grip high pulls, Power cleans, Power snatches. Much much better and way more fun that fucking shrugs.
Shrugs can still be effective though, but make sure you do them properly - use a full range of motion and hold the peak contraction. Don't fall into the trap (no pun intended) of using way too much weight and quarter repping.
