Their muscle density is higher so yes, they can kill a human in close combat, but humans aren't designed for close combat and would never realistically get into it with a chimp. Muscle density isn't a relevant thing here. The support structures (tendons and ligaments) are way stronger than in humans, which allows them to use all their muscle at once without ripping themselves apart. The muscles are also innervated in a way that causes them to fire all their fibers at once. Humans don't do this except in times of crisis and those people often have permanent damage due to the weaker support structures.

Chimps and other non-human apes get a lot of there strength for higher muscle density and higher bone density. They also have less fine control over their muscles, as a result they are less efficient and less dexterous but they can get a workout from just doing everyday chimp stuff.

Humans have more functional strength in that we can use our fingers to make much better tools and then accurately use those tools.
