When it comes to protein/mass gainer shit more expensive doesn't mean better. There is zero regulation of that industry, some brands have some nasty shit in them and some jack up the price for no reason whatsoever. First off, don't bother with hydrolyzed whey, it won't make a difference unless you're a professional bodybuilder and depending on the brand as little as 10% of it can be actually hydrolyzed. Marketing nonsense.

I get whey isolate from myprotein.com, 90% of it is actual whey. No suspicious shit. Biotest from t-nation.com is also good. For additional calories I stuff the smoothie with other things like milk, peanut butter, oats, bananas, nutella, etc. You can get well over 500 calories in a delicious 20oz shake no problem using regular foods.

Last time I checked, powdered/dried milk (available at most every grocery store) is cheaper per gram of protein than leading brands of whey. Not sure how it stacks up in fat, but if you're trying to gain weight I can't imagine it's worse than commercial whey products.
