It lets me get more work out of lighter weights and emphasizes control and reversal strength at the bottom of the lift more than paused benching does. If I can catch and hold a weight just off my chest, actually pausing it on my chest feels like a joke by comparison.

When the reps are lower, yes to both. Right now they're just controlled enough on the descent to keep them in the proper groove and there's no pause, just an immediate return to sender.

If you're training to have fun and be normie strong, then doing sheiko and being weaker than you actually are due to fatigue is not going to be fun for you and you'd be better off doing 5/3/1 or cube or something. If you're training solely to do well at competition and your comp numbers are the only thing that matters to you regarding training, you can problem slog through high volume or less "fun" training and still be happy

well, it's a combination of not following my program, not lifting consistently, not eating enough. whenever I am making progress again there seems to be something that ruins everything again. stress and busy life, illness, 'injury'

but now I am trying my best to step it up again and see where that gets me

if I don't make progress I will test my test

it's frustrating... one of my gymbros is 19 years old, only 2 years of lifting. in the past 6 months he increased his bench 5RM by almost 30kg and his squat 5RM by 45kg. he is almost 100kg with less than 15% bf. I started younger than him and am older, I lift for much longer, I barely make any progress, my lifts aren't where I want them to be and I am only 90kg now that I lost weight but still look fatter. I pay much more attention to proper form and biomechanics but still get issues while he has none. my lifts are still better but he is catching up

yes, I did not train seriously for many years. yes, I had problems due to depression and so on. but I would lie if I said that I am not jealous as fuck

Depending on the day somewhere between 3-6 but with Bill Starr I'd only really count the last 2 sets of 5 as "working sets" whereas previously all 3-6 of my sets would be working sets.

I'll probably stick with it as written because I'm hoping the low volume will help me recover a bit this month since I had planned on a 4 week off-season and cut it to two weeks. Plus I'm cutting so I'll want to keep the volume relatively low anyway.
