With that comes alot of risk. Rape allegations, injuries, damage to the house, and any other potential problems are a huge liability.

Paying dues works as insurance. The national fraternity will give your chapter a lawyer or whatever else you could need to fix the problem.

Looking back on my undergrad experience, I really wish I've pledged. I would have gone to more parties, I would have done more drugs, and I would have picked up more sluts. These are all fleeting, and ultimately unimportant experiences, but these are things I wish I have gotten out of my system as a dumb kid. As a young adult well into the start of my career path, I cannot waste too much time on parties and girls.

Frat boys do make connections in their undergrad, whether they are quality or not, they do count. It's these connections that helps the kids get a start on their chosen career path. It's the difference between flipping burgers and working at the office.

When I was 18 I was all about "being myself" and bullshit like that. I had that dumb, contrived sense of "independence" that every fresh college kid has.

Joining a fraternity got me out of a depression where i was very close to killing myself, and was drinking myself to death alone every night while everyone else had fun.
I joined the fraternity where i fit in; its not like i just randomly joined one, i went to rush and saw which ones had guys i liked. i rushed, and got a bid to one which, albeit is low tier, still throws great parties and is above average size.
Yeah, hazing was annoying, but it was just calisthenics and the occasional gross liquor. But the point of it wasnt to hurt us, it was to bond the pledge class. It forces us to be together for long periods of time hanging out; you end up friends with people like that, who already pledged the fraternity due to common interests.

I'm not paying for friends, im paying for alcohol ,food, and housing i already would have had to buy anyway, just now its with a ton of perks.

Noone in my fraternity is creepy or weird to girls. we had an issue with harrasment at a party one time. that time was when we decided to let a bunch of gdi guys in, big mistake, we had to kick one out for harassing a girl.

Worst mistake of my life. I'm glad I left. I was unhappy. I partied and drank a lot and banged bitches left and right. But I was still miserable. I tried to kill myself, ate 42 pills. It didn't work. I'm home now. Back in school. It's been two years now but I've done a good job of repressing my memories of it. I'm sure there are good ones out there. But if you're miserable and hate yourself there will come a day where the party's over but you're still awake and you walk around the house as everyone is passed out.
