Enough with this meme. That won't do anything, he just needs to have adequate nutrition, macros, training and recovery. You can make MAD gains on a caloric deficit assuming you actually have any bodyfat to metabolize, which only refugees/p.o.w./famine stricken Africans and Tom Hanks' character from Cast Away don't have (Hanks definitely had some chub, I take that back)
>>35230749

230lbs
215lbs for five reps. That feel when I hit two plates once and then got a gastric bug that made me shit out my soul continuously for three straight weeks.
>>35230786
Eat more is advice for "hard gainers". That is to say "people with low appetite". They lack _adequate_ nutrition because they feel like throwing up when they eat more food than is necessary to avoid starvation, much less build muscle or condition in response to stress.
People with average or above average appetites only need to eat big in comparison to somebody that doesn't lift. It'll usually feel like a normal amount of food to them.
Source: recovering fatty that gained muscle even when he felt like he was dieting.
>>35230786
>>35230786
The only time "eat more" is applicable is if you're on steroids, brutally underweight and emaciated OR you overestimate the amount of food you eat, in which case you probably fit in the category
>brutally underweight/emaciated
As long as you're getting proper nutrition and don't fit any of the 3 categories, you don't need to eat a high calorie surplus
I just read this guy's post (>>35231212) and I agree with him
>>35231212
You are so fucking retarded just shut the fuck up. Yes you can make gains on a deficit but the rate is about 3 lbs of lbm for every 4 months. That is slow as fuck and inefficient. You can gain a kilo a month of lbm under ideal conditions as a natty with a calorie surplus.
Just because you gained muscle on a cut while being a fat fuck doesn't mean it's efficient at all.

3 pounds of LBM is fucking amazing for most people-
I barely made more than 3 pounds of LBM in my first 3 months because I was overtraining and hypertrophy couldn't occur.
I gained a lot of strength by running SS with my own additional volume shit (Yeah, I know I fucked up) and jogging, but about half of my weight gains were muscle and half were fat (10 lbs total)

Maybe, but I'm an athlete with an FFMI of 20 and I'm the most muscular man from either side of my family for at least 3 generations, so gains are probably harder to come by for us.
I have well above average test for my age (850 ng/dl), so either I have shitty muscle building genetics or I improperly train for size/overtrain. That last thing I would find odd because I have achieved advanced strength standards.

You're a damned fool if you think the majority of people need a 1000 calorie surplus to gain the optimal amount of muscle.
Considering you can gain 1 lb per month of muscle in a large caloric deficit, a mild surplus of 500 calories is more than enough.
