Hit lmao3.5plaet DL today after changing to a switch grip. Is there any downside to using a switch grip it seems like its discussed on /fit/ as a last resort measure along with chalk or wrist ties and until now i've avoided using it.

Straps are meant to be used when your grip is too fatigued to finish a set, but during working sets mixed grip and/ or chalk is customary

Mixed grip isn't a last resort for most people, it's rather how they grip the bar on most sets. Straps might be more of a last resort for some but not for everyone. Just use chalk if you can, though. Limiting yourself to double overhand without chalk only results in getting the absolute minimum out of the exercise.

There is the issue about bicep tears, but if you're worried about that I'd try to use a hook grip instead.

Yeah i'll try to keep it up with overhand it hasn't been an issue before however I was out of routine over summer and my DLs are ahead of my grip strength.
