I recall seeing somewhere a study that confirmed listening to music while exercising reduces perceived pain and lets you exert more effort.

What I'm wondering is what kind of music should you listen to while liftan,

1) music that makes you angry, that's heavy, fucked up sounding, death metal/drill rap etc because it makes you angry and blind to pain
Or
2) music that you really get into the groove of, that you subjectively enjoy, whether it be jazz, Cuban salsa, opera, etc, basically music you get pleasure from, that makes you feel good, release endorphins and reduces the affect of pain on you

Which one makes you more productive and is better for lifting? Are any of you gays willing to experiment and see what works the best?
>>
>>34893205

I would suggest no music or no angry music.

At best something instrumental and chilled.

I find when handling heavier weights form needs to be really good and I need to focus.

Angry music helps me beast through and pleasurable music can make me distracted because I'm enjoying the song.

Also can become used to going for a PR's with certain songs.
>>
if you're listening to music that makes you angry, then you really are getting into the groove and subjectively enjoying it. In other words, if 1 is true then also 2 is true.

that's my opinion on music tho it has nothing to do with your central question

I listen to anything to drown out the stupid-ass conversations I overhear at the gym.
>>
music is the faggest shit ever.

I know dudes that just "can't lift without my ipod brooo"

its a crutch. the point of lifting isnt to turn off, its to tune into your mind and make mental gains just as much as physical.

its the same shit as with faggots that cant work out unless theres ppl around. that weak ass humpty dumpty aint nevergoin nowhere
>>
>>34894466
Dude, how big of a hipster do you have to be to hate music in general?

I honestly can't relate to people who don't like music.

But I do agree it can become a bit of a crutch while working out.

I listen to the same music Zyzz (and Jeff Seid and others I'm sure) listened to. Trance music brah, it's the best lifting music. Its energy is unmatched across all other genres.

Here's what Zyzz would be listening to right now if he were still around:

John O'Callaghan feat. Sarah Howells - Find Yourself (Standerwick Remix)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIVa8SyJQOU

Armin van Buuren feat. Rock Mafia - Hands To Heaven

philosopher here. Its all about finding an "aesthetic" sound. you want to become aesthetic right? listen to dem fuckin masterpieces (as perceived by you) & make these gainz breh.

i like listening to the doors, pink floyd albums, blood orange "cupid deluxe" and brothers in arms.

dat ability to get lost in the beauty of the music cuts the edge off the work, and allows you to operate like a machine.

Similar to how smoking a little weed or drinking some alcohol benefits your gaming performance it lets you relax and helps take the metaphorical the edge off.

>>34893205
Only listen to german language instruction audio while lifting crew. If you're there to improve yourself you might as well improve in mind as well

Also that arse had me sniffing the screen hard.

I listen to either new 80s revival electronic shit or folk and bluegrass while I lift. Classical or Spotify's running play list while I do cardio.
>>
Hiphop
Bit of 90s techno
Remixes of 16 bit video games. Jrpgs are my favorite.
Drum and bass
Jungle
Hiphop core
80's hair metal and
embarassingly sappy 80's pop ballads.
00's club hiphop
Random anime openings and k-pop songs.
That's about it actually

Step back and listen for a second.

You can either lift to Trap music
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DQO-rzzjXo
(before Trap music hit we would listen to shit like Pendulum Slam):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRbZucDXaVw
but it only had one good part - the bass drop. Trap music gives you multiple bass drops so you can take breathers in between sets and hit it hard during your next set.

Or epic orchestral music
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2hRTLdvdnk

Or brutal death metal (also known as slam music)

P.S. By no means, do you ever EVER listen to rap while lifting. Letting some faggot talk shit in your ear while lifting is just unacceptable.

Although there are some great Trap music mixes that feature the occasional rap shit, the bass drops and majority of instrumental work makes up for it.

There are a few gems in here. Skip around and see if any of it vibes with you. Trust that it will feel better in the gym than it will ever sound listening at your desk.

I've lifted with and without music and I simply know for a fact that lifting with music is better. If the time comes and you truly need to exert your muscles without music (like in a fight), you'll be fine without it. But you'll make more gains lifting with music, plain and simple.

All these faggots talking about listening to soft music while lifting should be pointed and laughed at. They're most likely legit autists.

A study found Eminem (lose yourself in particular) increases athletic ability
>>
My lifting music doesn't need to be angry, but it needs to be fairly fast paced. I need the music pace to match up with my own lifting pace. if it's too slow, my lifting rate drops and I get a shitty workout.

I'm usually about shoegaze, noise rock, heavy industrial techno and such, but I found the best workout music to be dumb EDM á la Tsunami, Animals and all that faggotry (brostep too).
The buildup->drop structure is ideal for pacing yourself and not taking too long a break after a set.

Post-CFH Pantera is the embodiment of the dyel tough guy at the gym who walks around with his chest puffed out but can barely bench 1pl8 (he also blasts Pantera on his headphones).
They're posers.

I like listening to the Prodigy and dark DnB/neurofunk. Both are pretty angry and get your blood pumping.

>I recall seeing somewhere a study that confirmed listening to music while exercising reduces perceived pain and lets you exert more effort.

Pain? Who the fuck perceives using muscle strength for a lift as "pain" ?

You make working out sound like you are being raped and need a safe place in your mind to escape to
>>
I agree that I think some people might use it as a crutch. But when I'm by myself and have my phone i like to listen to music while lifting. Also keeps you from having to talk to people. I normally listen to drill shit so that's what i listen to while lifting.

I squat 177.5kg x3 @75kg not 1rm tested cause I don't believe in going past 3 reps.

I used to lift to disturbed & metal and get angry and yes I would lift more but the downside was degradation of form over time and needing music to break PRS.

This is all due to injuries
