I do it because I have longish legs and I can shove them to the side this way. If I have my feet straight forward I can't get my hips low without my legs shoving the bar too far in front of me. I also feel my glutes/inner thighs more with feet angled outwards.

Semi-sumo should always be a back up plan that is only gone to after an extended period of trying to pull with textbook sumo form. And semi sumo means external rotation of the knees is still important but the upper back is allowed to round or violent early knee lockout is not cued.

Shins need to be vertical when weight is coming off the floor. So a narrow stance sumo still requires some external rotation but reduces your speed off the floor, which is in my opinion a bad trade off. People who actually pull semi sumo usually use all the same cues as a regular sumo but have a rounded upper back (Coan) or dont cue violent early knee lockout.

Note the external rotation of the hips, and early knee lockout, but rounded upper back.

Hip hinging is important for sumo and squats. You bring the hips back to keep your shins vertical and stretch your hamstrings in the bottom of the squat.

Essentially it increases the rebound in the bottom as well as keeps your knees from passing toes, while isn't the end of the world, it does put unnecessary strain on the knees.

Well, the inability to hip hinge correctly is why I spent 6 months trying to conventional am deadlift without a rounded lumbar.

I practiced it and tried understanding the movement pattern but I never really did it.
Which is why I sumo deadlift now.

If I try to "sit back" as you cue it, I literally fall on my ass because I lose balance.

But you are right, I should keep on striving for it, keep trying to do it.

I would do the standard suggestion and say follow an existing program. If you want the toolbox for programming then Practical Programming is a good place to start. Other than that a lot of it is just knowing the programs and seeing how they undulate volume and intensity for responsible periodization.

Take a look at prilipen's chart, especially if you can find the graphic with RPE stuff included.

Lads I think I really have blown out my shoulder. I tweaked it yesterday during a sheiko bench pyramid because my setup got lazy by set #10 or 11

Today the front delt is pretty sore and sometimes if I move it weird I get a jolty/electrical feeling. Mobility isn't exactly restricted, I can still do dislocations, clasp hands behind back, etc. but certain parts of the ROM are painful

hanging from a pullup bar also hurts
