You don't need to pay a PT, unless you're looking for some coaching on form or want to learn a complex lift. Most of them are scam artists anyway. Just find a good lifting program and stick with it.

Literally anyone on /fit/ who is serious about lifting has read the sticky, what reason is there not to? There could be info in it that you didn't already know, and it takes less than an hour to get through all of it.

Also, gear or not, you need a decent understanding of diet and nutrition to get anywhere, which is all covered in the sticky.
