The TDEE is best used as an aiming point for calorie measurements. Obviously you will never get a very accurate measurement of your TDEE from a simple calculator, but the science behind it being a thing is real, just like with BMR.

>are you getting your protein in immediately after your workout?

For fucks sake people, do you get all your advice from 60 year old bodybuilders and fad magazines? People have the power to literally research anything they want as much as they want. But they won't research their workout program or diet for shit even though it consumes half of their life.
>>
>there was a 30 min window after a workout where you can consume protein; if you missed it, you made no gains

I've never heard the "if you missed it" part, but I have heard that the body absorbs protein for muscle regeneration more readily right after a workout. Is that also false?

related: I've also also heard that it's more effective to consume your protein throughout the day, rather than at once. Thoughts?

>>
>>34860448
>I've also also heard that it's more effective to consume your protein throughout the day, rather than at once.
This is sort of true. The problem is proteins are handled a bit differently than carbs or fats, it has to be broken down into amino acids and processed in your kidneys. However your kidneys can only handle so much protein at a time, any more and it just doesn't get metabolized. It's possible a little is wasted if the protein doesn't get processed right away. You can technically OD on protein, but this is very rare unless you get rabbit starvation or something.
>>
>>34860506
Kidneys don't metabolize protein at all, they filter out waste products of it. Your intestines absorb the amino acids, not your kidneys. Its true that if you have a TON of protein the rest will be stored as fat if its unneeded anywhere else. But you're not going to piss protein unless your glomeruli are fucked up

>There is nothing more inaccurate than TDEE.
Wut? Total Daily Energy Expenditure is a quantity to be measured. It can't be inaccurate any more than "height" or "speed" or "number of apples in this barrel" can be "inaccurate".
You can be WRONG about a quantity. And a method for measuring can be inaccurate. But it's literal nonsense to say that a quantity is inaccurate.

5/10 for being nonsensical enough to make me reply.

it does and it doesn't. It's not magic, but it's easier for some people to control their intake that way. This is actually supported in literature.

Spot reduction. The sticky busted that myth pretty quickly.

That what you are eating doesn't matter, as long as you meet your caloric intake threshold. I mean, this is sorta true, but obviously proteins are better than carbs so you can build muscle, and fat is better than carbs for not putting on as much fat, and the more processed your macros, the more your body will keep on.

Let's say you're average person weighing 75kg, 180cm. If you have normal BF percentage, you're around 60kg of lean body mass.
So multiply that by 1.5 and you get your protein. Around 90 grams per day.
You can multiply it by 2 if you want to be absolutely sure, so that means 120g of protein per day.
Even if you're 90kg 185cm at 10% BF (which is among top for natural lifters), you won't need more that 160g of protein per day MAX.
I believe reason why this myth came to be is because nutritional advice was given by people on steroids. When you're on steroids, your body can synthesize protein more effectively, and thus use more to build more muscle.
However, if you're natural lifter, even if you're genetically top and you train to perfection and you eat perfectly, you won't gain more than 250 grams of muscle per day.
250 g divided by 7 days is around 35 grams of muscle built per day. Keep in mind these are gains for those who are new to lifting, if you're veteran lifer you'll gain far less.
So just use logic, why would you need 200 grams of protein or more per day?
>>
>>34863744
>why???

To get an insulin spike. It is legit and has nothing to do with anabolic window. Positives for someone who goes to the gym three times a week and does nothing else might be neglictable, but if you are training twice a day, it starts to count.

God damn. I remember that it was great advice for skellies to get them to cram something in them before they were too lazy and sore to eat properly.

Personally, after lifting I lost my appetite and got nausea if I ate or had a protein shake an hour after my workout. I was a fatty but train oly lifts, and the cns burn after lifting crippled me.

It's more about cns adaptation as a beginning lifter.

If you do cardio, your cns isn't selling out on adapting to lifting heavy.

So your noob gains will be compromised dramatically and you won't have the meteoric rise in lifts that most new trainees have. It's not bro science, it's just simple cns adaptation for new lifters.

After you're no longer new, then you should definitely add cardio unless you're specifically training for a strength sport. HIIT is the best.

What's the point in noob gains?

If, as people keep saying, noob gains is more than just your CNS adapting, it's just strength going up pointlessly with no actual gains

Doesn't that just hamper aesthetics? If you're getting stronger but staying just as skelly? inb4 >muh functional strength

Read the fucking sticky anon. Jesus christ.

>you don't have to do heavy compounds to grow, who needs cns adaptation anyway?
>heavy compounds aren't directly related to core training and trunk stability, as well as not increasing hypertrophy and mass near your abdomen

Agreed. There's no way that's 6 months, even with juice.

>anybody in the gym is in any way interested in me, my workout, or judging me because they can lift more

The secret of getting comfortable in the gym is realising what nonsense this is.
>>

>implying that's a meme

It's great for cutting. There's an adaptation period where your body gets used to using fat deposits and dietary fat as energy instead of glucose, but it sheds fat like a motherfucker. Legitimately, it only breaks down Bodyfat so you keep your gains.

But it takes a few days of adaptation and you cannot go keto on low fat content foods. Load shit up with cheese and eat fatty meats. Butter is your friend, and so is olive oil if you really can't deal with those foods.

noob gains are the part where you progress fast
firstly becasue you get better at form and you body learns to get more efficient at task it does often
then because of cns adaptation
and becasue you body adapts more easily to something near the average:
a 17 yo guy who's been playing vidya his whole life gains in the first 3 months the muscles he should have had naturally by living an healthy life
the 3 next months he gets what he could need to live and thus his body adapts fast
we're not made to bench 3 plates that's why it's so hard to get there

>only 6 months on a beginner program
>causing the great change

The first pic is 8 months and the last pic is 1 year after the first one.

There is no program you can do that creates serious aesthetics in 6 months. SS plus bulking will get you big and strong the fastest as well as put on the most muscle in the shortest amount of time.

Anyone who thinks they got joocy after 6 months is a dyel that's delusional or in highschool.

>what's the point of noob gains

You get stronger.

If you're stronger than you can lift more weight for higher reps than someone who isn't strong.

Lifting heavy weight for 8-12 reps instead of skelly weight for 8-12 reps means you make sickening gains.

Also it's great to do for proper form. Cns adaptation is extremely important in new lifters. You can lift heavy weights, and not only that, you are now able to use your muscles properly due to the cns adaptation so you're not a flailing retard in the gym that uses baby weight for over a year.

Proper muscle contraction is extremely important. Ask a grill to flex and that's what a standard non lifter is like. Can't even contract muscles properly.

>inb4 muh functional strength

But it is. It's function is to get you sickening gains when you leave SS and move on to advanced programming and leave the wifebeater skellies in the dust.
>>
>>34868435
True then again 90% of people who try SS don't even read the book or the sticky and expect insane results, FROM A STARTING PROGRAM.
