I want to travel light. What lens do you recommend?

I've got a APS-C DSLR (Nikon D7100) with the following lenses:
- 50mm 1.8 D
- 35mm 1.8 G
- 18-55mm 3.5-5.6 G (VR II)
- 55-200mm 3.5-5.6 G (VR II)

Been thinking about getting a 18-105mm (cheap) or saving up some cash and buying a 20mm 2.8 prime.
>>
>>7207
take the 35 and live with it.

35mm, there is no better option
>>
>>7207
I'd go with the 18-55mm or the 35mm

You can buy that camera + kit lens brand new for that price. The one you're looking at better come with a nice set of lenses otherwise fuck no

Anyone recommend a circular polarizer for under $40? 46mm. Looked at reviews and comments elsewhere but it's all a bit of clusterfuck of 'twelve coatings!' and whatnot that are meaningless to me.

Ideally something that doesn't lower exposure value too much.

Maybe not technically a gear question, but is there no way to buy Lightroom/Premiere/Photoshop without having to buy the goddamn CC subscription service? I've been using pirated Adobe Creative Suite stuff for years since I'm a poor student but I want to start paying for it, but I don't use Photoshop or Premiere often enough to warrant paying a monthly fee for it. I can't seem to find Premiere CS6 on Adobes website.

thanks for answering. I love the 35mm but sometimes I want something wider (its a 50mm equivalent on an APS-C).

the problem with the combo 18-55 + 35mm is that sometimes I want something a bit more tele than the 55mm.

Thanks for answering (again)

I'm getting ready to graduate from film and point-n-shits to something else, and I'm pretty fixated on mirrorless right now (either a6000 or a7ii). As a dumb twenty-something the appeal to me right now is cost: with a Sony mirrorless I can just buy a used body + Turbo Lens/a comparable adapter and continue to use most of my nice FD lenses without having to shell out the same amount for a DSLR body and then have to spend another ridiculous sum of cash on good glass.

What I want to know is, what reasons do I have to go DSLR over mirrorless here? I'm familiar with the basic pros/cons the two, I just wonder if there are things I'm not considering here.
>>
>>7226
Nah, it's not about morals, it's just that it's less hassle to keep it up to date and you don't have to worry about it randomly stopped working because your firewall stopped blocking the domains and that stuff
>>
Do most of you guys buy new or do you prefer to buy used bodies and lenses?
>>
Just bought a 18-35 sigma f1.8 for my nikon to replace my plastic 35 f1.8. However as I make the aperture smaller the exposure is off. It keeps overexposuring pictures and in turn affecting sharpness. Can it be that the lens is missing focus and then getting the wrong exposure? Because currently only f1.8 to sometimes f2.8 is usable before tons of white
>>
Sooo what if i want to buy a camera basically just for travelling, in your opinion wich camera would be the best option? considering a 300$ budget

it's ok, happens to old lenses especially at small apertures. might cost you a 3rd of a stop. definitely not very noticable. bad focus is about lens alignment not aperture, overexposure is about your shutter, not one misaligned blade of your 9 blade apterture.

Hey guys,

I have a Sony a3000 and am putting a Canon FD 50mm f1.8 on it by use of an adaptor.

I am shooting a short video in LA and was going to rent a camera but I saw the video the a3000 was capable of here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jchuYNwXXn8

Will this lens suffice? I also have the 18-55 mm lens it came with, but I want manual control of focus. I am an absolute noob though. My subject will be about 3-6 feet away and then some shots outside 15 feet away.

any tips?
>>
>>7234
why does the video there look almost pro

and then this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJrHG9qQAz8

look like it was done on a camcorder?
>>
>>7233
That's good to know. But why does my shutter function fine on all of my lenses except for this one?
>>
Does shutter count actually matter for digital non-SLR cameras?

I understand why it would matter for (D)SLRs, because the mirror inside the camera moves, and the more something moves, the more you wear it out.

But does it matter for cameras with fewer/no moving parts?

I came up with this question when I saw used cameras being sold on craigslist, and the seller posted shutter count anyway. And I'm talking about P&S and mirrorless cameras.
>>
>>7237

The shutter itself still wears out.

From my understanding the shutter is more likely to fail than the mirror.
>>
>>7237

mirrorless cameras still have shutters my dude.
>>
>>7235

framerate. the first one was filmed at 24fps, the one below it was 30. also, homeboy blew his highlights something fierce, which makes basically any video look like it was shot on a camcorder.
>>
I've got the canon 70-200mm f.28 lens and am wondering if i should be using a filter to add protection to the lens. How necessary is this and which filters are good and wont cause a reduction in image quality?
>>
I'm pretty new to photography and was considering getting a Nikon d5300 with some sort of prime lens, any suggestions for a different camera or lens?
>>
>>7242
Get a D7000 or D7100 instead. You'll be able to use a plethora of screw driven lenses that are generally cheaper than newer ones.
>>
what backpacks do you guys use for cameras? for hiking etc? snowboarding etc? enough for a camera and a few lens, plus other shit for whatever you're actually doing.
>>
>>7207
Sell it all
Get sony a7ii, 24-70 f4 and 70-200 f4. The ff sensor and ibis counter any issues with the slower f4 lenses, you can still get a shit ton of bokeh out of the 70 200.

>>7230
It's a trash lens and you made a mistake. It's little more than a paperweight without at least having the sigma dock.

>>7227
Go for the a7ii, it's a fantastic body and in a different league to the 6000, and your fd lenses will look 'right'.
Don't get a lens turbo adapter, they turn everything into shit, spherical aberrations, chromabs out the ass, lower contrast, they suck compared to ff, and sony reducing the price point to ff means they have been pushed out of the market a bit. What do you lose next to a dslr? Battery life and an ovf, carry an extra battery and most people massively prefer evfs.

Why do people here hold such personal resentment towards a camera company that is the backbone of the whole industry? I've got an Mamiya MSX1000 with a light meter that's totally accurate... when it works.
It sometimes works fine, sometimes flicks on when I first activate it then drops to "total underexposure", and sometimes never rises from "total underexposure" at all.
My first thought was that the battery contacts are rusty or covered with acid, but nope, they're squeaky clean.

Any speculation as to what might be causing this? I might take it apart at some point in the near future, anything I should look for?

For that money you can get a K-5 at Pentaxforums.
>>
>>16752

why buy a 10 year old plastic toy with limited and gimped features to learn? you'll only be frustrated and trapped in the canon buy up pyramid scam. when you realize you actually need this specific feature in a camera and you are forced to buy a better model only to find canon has gimped features in that model forcing you to buy a newer model or a higher end model.

many other camera companies pack a camera body full of features right from the start and hope you buy lenses, as you grow in skill and learning, to fund their company.
>>
>>16757
Why is that better for a beginner?>>16797
I'd rather buy the plastic toy to find out if I enjoy the hobby before moving up and buying anything more expensive. If I hate it I could always resell it.

>many other camera companies pack a camera body full of features right from the start and hope you buy lenses, as you grow in skill and learning, to fund their company.

How is this different from canon?
>>
>>16809
Same money for a magnesium body DSLR with a bright pentaprism viewfinder instead of a dark and inaccurate dust-magnet pentamirror, weather sealing and fully specced UI with dual wheel controls.
In-body stabilization, and if I recall correctly the K-5 uses the sensor shift during video instead of the digital stabilization in the newer models.
>>
>>16828
That sounds really good, but I read that it's tough to focus on video. Video is the main thing I'm going to do, and I was already set on the T3I. The swivel screen was also going to help record something's I had in mind.

I could always upgrade to the K5 after I get better.

Depends on how much you're paying. The F3 is old as balls, and was never a high end camera to begin with so it'll be a little bit outdated/

Currently got a Canon T3 and a Fuji Instax Mini, not a professional photographer by any means. Not much money too.

Been wanting to get into analog photograph, what are some good beginner cameras? Preferrably 35mm, it's really hard to find places that develop 120mm here. (I'm also based out of NA/Europe).

OM-1, any Minolta SRT, Canon A-1.

>Minolta SRT

Over X-500?

Also got the em10 II for my first real camera. Very happy with it, although it took me a while to really grasp what I was doing with the menus. Great camera though. I bought the $99 Olympus 40-150 and a used oly 25mm 1.8 for 250 just recently.

>I considered the Sony a6000

It is the better choice imo. Especially considering it is quite a bit cheaper.

The tiny m43 sensor just doesn't do it for me. If you play on shooting low light with the OM10, you will be disappointed.

>IS

No, it has a much larger sensor instead. This, combined with the OSS lenses, more than makes up for the lack of IS.

>touchscreen AF

A complete gimmick and awkward to use. You DON'T want touchscreen AF.

>lenses are expensive

They are also considerably better. Almost everyone has OSS too.

They're okay. Think of it as Minolta's answer to the AE-1.
Either way, any SLR from a reputable company will be fine as long as you don't may more than $50.

I can agree with the sensor size and touchscreen. Friend of mine had a G7 for a little bit and fuck me that thing couldn't handle low light. The touchscreen was a cool gimmick, but he never used it and I found myself just using the dials and buttons. EVF lagged a bit when in low light too.
He ended up selling it and getting a 7D.

Any cheap camera recommendations for a starter who just wants to take some photos for ebay listings?
