It's not noticeable in real life and I don't often look at closeup pictures of my own watches but I see what you're talking about now.
The J issue has been bothering me, though. I'm probably gonna ditch the one I have within a few months and have mymanmatt build me a 16233.

You'll need to look at the inside of the caseback and the movement to really determine what it is. I'm sure a watchmaker could just unscrew it for you and help you figure out what it is, it would take a couple of minutes at most.

It's not hard to remove.
Unless it's an invicta 8926OB and removing the cyclops causes you to get burning hot fragments of sapphire launched at your eyeball after the thing explodes.
Making this thing almost blinded me.
>>
>>9699427
If it was a real Rolex and you did that then the next time you sent it in for service they would tell you that your watch is broken and force you to pay several hundred dollars to get a brand new crystal with a cyclops on it.
>>
>>9699464
What I'm talking about is a datejust assembled from spare gen parts on top of an ETA movement. Sending it to rolex would probably cause them to throw it in the trash and send anthrax to you in the mail.
>>
>>9699474
You did what? You bult a watch out of spare parts? You saying that can be done?
>>
>>9699474
I know it's a fake, I just wanted to mention how shitty Rolex is about servicing.

Aren't things like that and the Caddel subs really hard to buy unless the guy who makes then knows you on some watch forum and you have a history of buying watches on that forum and stuff? Sounds pretty neat though.
>>
>>9699237
>it seems that the attitude against beginners' questions are really mean spirited
I don't think that's true for /fa/. /fa/ tends to be mean against people who think they know shit when they don't, but beginners who strive to gain more knowledge are generally well accepted I think. At least that's my experience.

>>9699482
Yes. I didn't do it, nor do I have the watch yet, but there's a guy who offers a service where you give him a datejust model and tell him which parts you want to be genuine and then he builds it to your specification.
They run about $800, assuming gen dial, crystal, and crown.

>>9699491
Yeah, although I don't think it's THAT hard to get one. Caddell is probably harder to get than a mymanmatt.

Most of the world's nice watches are in the hands of utter plebs, don't sweat it anon.
>>
How usual is it for people to mod watches? Is that done only to the watches that are somehow more succeptible (seiko 5 is infamous for that, right?) or can any watch have its dial or hands just swapped?
>>
>>9699528
Any watch that's not a seiko 7s derivative, miyota 8215, or ETA is going to be a lot more difficult to find hands for. You're going to actually have to measure the diameter of each pinion and go through a watchmaker supply site and find ones that match exactly.
Dials are a lot easier, though. If a dial doesn't actually match the movement you can just snap off the dial feet and affix it to the movement with adhesive dots.
Lots of people mod watches on /g/. Not so sure about /fa/, other than myself.
>>
>>9699553
I can feel the moment where I put another tab next to the perpetual /fa/ watch thread slowly closing in.

Hey /fa/
Was hoping for an opinion before I buy my first watch that costs >$20.
Looking for a daily wear, around $100 or cheaper.
I wear a lot of grey so was thinking silver or gunmetal or black over gold don't want that shit to look too gaudy.
<-- is what caught my eye browsing amazon, and would 43mm be too large for a skinny wrist?
>>
>>9699608
>>9699611
Just wondering, but why do you want to buy fakes? Wouldn't it be better to just buy a homage if you like the design and not risk looking stupid when/if someone calls you out on your fake?
>>
>>9699771
I'd advise silver/steel over gunmetal and a white or gray dial over black. Also, ones like the Kenneth Cole there are dangerously close to 'muh minimalism'
>>
>>9699771
Id go seiko or bulova because for their price point those brands offer good quality in terms of finishing/crystal/water resistance.
>43mm a bit big for simple 3 hands/non-chronograph yes.
>>
>>9699778
Most people are too retarded to know the difference between a high-quality fake and the real thing.
The reason people want to buy fakes is to get a good, functional watch that looks the way they want but without having to over spend on the real thing. Very, very few people would call out your watch if it's really good, especially if they only see it for a short period of time.

Opinions?
>>
>>9701404

One thing to keep in mind for future purchases is bezel thickness can play tricks on the eyes. A thicker bezel will make a 40mm watch look smaller, whereas one that's thin like yours will make it look like it's 42mm.

I'm jelly of that crown. I wish my Steinhart pilot came with one like that.

I guess your budget was pretty low? A 38mm Hamilton field watch would have been nice too and perfect for your wrist size, which I'm guessing is around 6-6.5"

Please point where the hell you're seeing casting lines or burrs in such a low magnification and low resolution photo that isn't even fully in focus. It looks fine to me, it's just an undecorated movement without any fancy surface finishing.

Or are you just here to once again talk out your ass and talk down at people with less money than you?

Definitely what I was after. I just don't want to wear something so nice as a daily... So I'll have to keep one or two of the above, but then I won't have anywhere near enough money for a MAN ON THE FUCKEN MOON.

Side note: I live about 20 minutes away from Archie.

>>9701889

Vintage Omega is all I'd be interested in. Had a '63 but I gave it to my cousin because it was too small and it needed a service. I didn't want to sell it because I knew some prude from WUS would want a discount.

I'm wearing it right now. It's a good watch and I loved it for the first month but now I wear it because I feel sorry for it sitting in my watch box. Just doesn't speak to my anymore.

None of my watches do (apart from the Glycine which I love to bits). That's why I have so many. I'd get bored and buy more.

>>9702054

I know they are. I just would hate to see it get really scuffed after a year of every day use.

Fakes are stupid. No offense Mr. DJ

>>
>>9702062

Well I am thinking of keeping one or two of mine. Probably the Glycine and the Pilot. But that's about $800-1000 I'd have to then save.

I'll probably put all up for sale, and if I get good offers then I'll sell. I definitely want to get rid of the asian gear.

/g/ if you were buying a watch, how much would a few NATOs thrown in sweeten the deal?

I.E, I ask for $600, you offer $550, I will throw in 5 natos. Would you then go for $600?

I'm asking because you're obviously the embodiment of the WUS community :^)

No and fakes are banned from the forum. I have been conditioned by my two years of WUS posting.

I would prefer to buy something genuine for $500 than a good fake costing the same.

The watch is for the wearer, not to be a show off. That's my thinking anyway. I just wouldn't feel comfortable.

>Nice watch, friendo! Like and upboated, 11/10!
>Buy more watches, friends! Buy buy buy buy buy! Never stop buying! Never be content with what you have!
The thing that really set me off is a thread I read where a guy posted a picture of a blue seamaster with a red strap. He asked how he could replicate that kind of look for cheaper. Somebody with sense would realize that he was just asking where he could find an affordable blue watch and a red leather strap to go with it.
Not watchuseek, though. They saw the word 'replicate' and the entire thread immediately turned into a FAKE WATCHES ARE FOR FAKE PEOPLE FAKE WATCHES ARE FOR FAKE PEOPLE FAKE WATCHES ARE FOR FAKE PEOPLE shitfest and nobody ever actually answered his question.
So I left watchuseek and started the daily watch threads on /g/. I made an affordable watch infographic which over time got enough people to buy watches that there's now a thriving watch community on /g/ and we can all circlejerk over our slavshit and malaysian seikos in peace. Happily ever after.

tl;dr you are correct, I hate places where everybody's nice
>>
>>9702192

I've seen that too. I hate docvail, the guy behind lew and huey.

That may have to do with the fact that WUS is full of legitimate shills.
I've learned to consider any watch purchase for months before I actually buy it. I also sold every watch in my collection that didn't get worn all the time. I'm going to try to keep it around 4.
We can make a watchaholics anonymous group if you want.

It's 36mm.

Really nice colours IMO. I just don't like TW Steel too much. Also:

> date cuts off 3
> hands are very short
> 50M WR printed ON THE DIAL. If it isn't 200, put it on the caseback ffs.
> Would be quite big

Also you'd need to have fairly dark skin to pull that one off I reckon.

>>9702763

I almost got this as my first watch (not including those worn as a child). I have a soft spot for these. They are faked a lot though so I would probably only buy from a trusted seller or an AD. 200m WR is bredy gool.

You have two blue sunburst dial watches. Mix it up, or sell the TW Steel to help fund your future mechanical purchase.
>>
>>9702823
Yeah having two blue ones is enough, but I just couldn't resist the gold/blue combination.
Don't think I'll be selling it though, but my next watch will probably have a black dial so that it doesn't scream "look at me" every time I wear it.
>>
>>9702856

I have one of these. I fell in love with it and a month later had one on my wrist. It's pretty gaudy and I'm a young white male so it doesn't really fit, but damn I love this thing.

So I can fully appreciate what you mean when you say you couldn't resist the gold and blue.

>the movement is chinese

Obviously durability and accuracy are an issue.
There's a shill in the comment section saying his is only 30s off a month, but that's not possible with any automatic under $1k. I reckon this thing will be 5 mins off a week, and break apart in 6 months.
But if you must, get the kenneth cole or hurlingham, cheaper but they're the same thing with different brand names slapped over.

if you dont know wether its quartz or not its quartz
>>
>>9702585

To tell if it's quartz (which it most certainly is), put it up to your ear. If it ticks once a second you have quartz.

This is because that doesn't look like it has a seconds hand.

Quartz is good for those who just want a simple watch that doesn't need to be fiddled with apart from a battery change every few years.

I think it looks quite nice anon. I just don't like the CK branding.

Pro-tip:

> If your watch comes from a brand that isn't exclusively known for watch manufacture, it's a fashion watch. This applies in most circumstances save for the likes of Invicta, Fossil, etc.
