I want some barcelona chairs, a tufted leather daybed, a stone coffee table on a cow hide rug and some square columns with bonzai or seasonal flowers on them in whatever vase may fit. minimal lighting as well, probably some sconces or hidden thing that runs the length of the wall that just reflects off the ceiling for light to keep things dim but not caveman dark

come on now samefag, if you can't tell eames furniture is a meme, not much I can do to help you.

Donald Judd did some dope 80's minimalist stuff...

Ettore Sottsass did exactly the opposite with his Memphis flair
Gaetano Pesce kinda followed his path of debatable aestheticism, though more process oriented
Benjamin Hubert and Max Lamb's stuff in cool.

If you insist on minimalist scandi stuff, Fritz Hansen is the ticket.

Dutch are still tacky as ever (see Marcel Wanders and Maarten Baas, Mooi, Droog, etc.)
I'd avoid mid-century modern (dames, eero aarnio, arne jacobsen, george nelson) if I didn't know what I was doing.
Try to get your hands on a couple of pieces shaker furniture first ( inexpensive second hand, will last a lifetime, no ifs and buts) if you're just starting out getting piecing together your interior..
then maybe go towards utilitarian yet sculptural pieces, (breuer, prouvé) and contemporary brands, like Hay, established & sons, de la espada

never heard of Rudolf Steiner, his stuff looks really cool though and was probably a big influence on Wright.

If you haven't been I strongly recommend checking out Taliesin West (or any of FLW's other buildings). I didn't care anything for architecture or design before I went there, and it really opened my eyes to how cool this shit can be.

I have this chair, without the swivel/adjustable base.

Wish I had the base that swivels/reclines, or that vitra sell it separately.
>>
>>9665231

No shit, because the way the fabric/leather is tensioned between the aluminium frame makes a reinstall almost a factory job.

I've restored a few and without several people and brute violence it's almost undoable to reattach the base. Unless a fat american sat in it for 40 years and stretched it beyond believe.

You should now that if you have one.
>>
>>9665229
steiner isn't well known, but his influence is massive. On top of being a great furniture craftsman and architect, he was weird and esoterically as well; made the first "organic" concrete buildings , wrote about bees and cosmic energy, founded a commune in Switzerland... an amazing character altogether. He reminds me of gerrit rietveldt or jean prouvé in how he chose to abandon the ideals of beauty of his time and build a new visual language.

Wright did superbe interior design but his track record as an architect wasn't that great if you consider the technical aspect of his work, in the sense that he is notorious for consistently drawing leaky ceilings , or so I've been told. That being said, the building of his that I've visited were all breathtaking. There are even stories of building being repaired for serious structural damage due to design flaws where they discovered that contractors disregarded his orders and reinforced weight baring walls and cantilever planes against Wright's will, avoiding collapse had they not added metal mesh and aggregate.

>>9665195
Worked at this design workshop/school where they have a great architectural pavilions collection (maybe a dozen small buildings on the site).
Sometimes, I'd act as a tour guide when the old lady wasn't around to give it. Nedless to say I had some good fucks in the Shigeru Ban pavilion... thanks for bringing back those memories.

My parents purchased a few Baas clay pieces for their house. I hated them at first, but they grew on me later on.
>>
>>9667509
How did they age? I have made a couple of them when I worked with him and remember being shocked by the disclaimer stating that this "chair" was actually a sculpture upon which you could sit on at your own risk... We build them as pieces of furniture, but deep down wondered if he didn't truly believe in his product or if it was something his gallerist insisted was to be attached to the "art".
It is an acquired taste, I'll give you that
>>
>>9667534
We got the coffee table and several chairs. This setup was placed in a small corner of our house. We would only use these Baas pieces irregularly, every once in a while. The chairs are sturdy enough, but sitting in them is a practice of faith. We always treat the furniture gingerly.

The Baas pieces, individually, are quite ugly. When they are placed together, in a set, it actually looks charming. When you have a Baas table with the appropriate Baas chairs in a room full of modern art with a similar style . . . it just works. I wish I had a photo.

I was there while he was still in Eindhoven... their workshop was on some sort of commune in the middle of Geldrop and the boss (maarten does designs, he solves the production) slept in a van in the back.
Burned a boat, made speakers out of logs, turned a carriage/trailer into a sauna, turned huge chandeliers for venetian glass blowers to reproduce, and loads more stuff and learned a lot in the process... granted, they're an unconventional bunch, but they treat their employees with the greatest respect and party like there's no tomorrow. I've got nothing but love for them.

I don't know if their habits changed since they moved the shop to the country, but they were quite disciplined at the time. I would only imagine they are even more so since they've got kids now. They goofed around a bit but it was all about getting the work done from from 8 to 6... after that, get as loose as you want, but you better be on your feet tomorrow morning. they are dutch after all.
I worked at the Vitra design museum / centre george pompidou design school for a couple of years. Tried for a gig with joep van lieshout but european laws wouldn't allow it so I went back to montreal. Right now, most of my clients are mostly artists, architects and contractors. I'm also preparing a class that I'll be giving next semester. Studied graphic design in uni and architectural woodworking and furniture production at the national trade school... i think that covers it.

they were getting subsidies for salaries from the government for european citizens or students in european universities; since I was neither, they couldn't afford to hire me and decided it was a right moment to head back home. I'm sure I could have pushed through some way but didn't feel like getting the bureaucrats all up in my business, since I'm not sure just how legit my employment was with the baron's school... that school was on par with baas I'd say as far as excitement goes. it's worth the look if you're interested in these things.

Why would you want an open wardrobe? It takes up an entire wall and all it does is look like a shopping display.

also strongly recommend a triple armoire with mirrors, once you're done dressing yourself you can just open the side doors to create a tri-fold mirror.

Kek can't see any difference between Walmart and "Donald Judd".
>>
>>9673478
it's in the quality of finish and material, but at a glimpse, Judd often uses solid wood whereas cheap furniture is made of stratified sheet material (like particule board) and has edge banding to hide it.

Old chair I bought from a mate for $20.
It's an actual antique.
I really enjoy the aesthetic; not as nice as some stuff on here though.

...man now I'm remembering an older guy some buddies and I befriended from college who lives on an ancient plantation house in rural North Carolina. He always seemed really excited about visitors because his kids are grown and his wife is gone so he has no one really to share the house with.

I should probably write him a letter to see how he's doing.

are barcelona chairs considered pleb tier? Or babby's first nice chair? Or the BMW of furniture?

I really like it, and keep pestering my parents to buy me one, but I also know nothing about interior design which makes me think maybe I don't know enough and just like the first nice one i've seen.
