but mainly it's the way he paints. van gogh could paint a chair and make it look beautiful. and he did. that's why he is so popular, he wears his heart on his sleeve

Not really talking about the correctness of the lighting, just those lines he added give so much more information about the environment. And the fact really that a lot of artists would've never added those lines. It just adds something extra to the entire thing for me.
