how can i maintain /fa/ status without looking like a wanker?
Just model yourself on your peers and/or your boss. You can be an improved version of them but not so much improved that you don't really look like them anymore.
It's a work uniform, dude. Trying to be the specialboi IS being a wanker.

you're right. the most fa people at work blend in with the culture/boss but have their own touch to it. for example this kid wears his pants high and without a belt. they way he does it is so unique to him. some wear cropped pants/ no show sock which is not my favourite but works for them. some wear Chelsea boots...

No socks? baka.

What fucking status?

don't go tryhard like all the pics in this thread, most offices aren't the place to go "pitti uomo", the way you maintain /fa/ at corporate places is to wear stuff that actually fits. 90% of the guys at my office (or any office) wear ill-fiting suits like pic related that look like they belong to their dads. Just get a mtm suit or get it tailored if you buy something off the rack.

For a man who collects sheckels from GQ, Olbermann can't dress for shit.

That guy might be acceptable if he didn't have the red gloves, and possibly the dark red socks (replace with a suitable color for the suit, such as black, grey, or even dark brown). The hat could probably remain, as could the similar colored shoes, but when people decide to be flashy, they should choose a select few things to embrace before it becomes too risky and compromised. The way he looks now, it looks like he's supposed to be going on a high fashion catwalk, not an office workplace.
generally you need status to pull off anything 'out-there' like a 3 piece or wild patterns. If you are a SVP or something, go wild, but if you are the intern or newb, take it easy.
When I started out, I wore very traditonal stuff (solid navy, grey, blue suits with white shirt, simple tie). You should try to differentiate with excellent tailoring, not sartorialist shit (until you are very senior)

i am in Australia and I work in top tier management consulting. many people here are dressed flashy due to the two points i just mentioned.
People casually rocking pocket squares and there's a huge 'no tie' culture...

This is good info, but I'd also like to add my $0.02.
Stick with basic plain suits (within the darker shades of blue and grey) but you can also change it up with small but more out there accessories. Like colorful but harmonized pocket squares, lively socks, and ties with texture (wool, linen, ect) but the goal is too keep the entire outfit generally conservative. If you want to you could incorporate well tailored double breasted suits for a bit of sartorial flair without going full peacock. Maybe more casual shoes like monks or loafers. Perhaps a vibrant mechanical watch or a dress shirt with a cutaway collar.
There's plenty of ways to add individualism to your uniform without going overboard. Again, the key is too keep the overall style within the bounds of professionalism but with a small number of well chosen items.
