If boots develop a small but deepish tear how would a cobbler fix it, is it worth taking to a professional (£££) as opposed to just sealing it with two part epoxy, they're on their way out anyway

I just use polish man, yeah mink oil darkens leather, but so does almost everything, there are some websites that talk about really high end shoes and they often mention what products to use (or in their case what products to tell your polishing service to use)

I have some really beat lambskin leather shoes that were originally over $1k but I got for 440 cuz they were beat to sht by the original owner sadly. I want to keep as natural as I can and really dont want any other color or anything added but they look all scratched up in the front, so I am wondering if I take them to a boot place what would they do if the boots have many scratches? I dont want them using cheap stuff they can use to clean crappy leathers and fake synthetic faux leathers to clean my gorgeous lambskin leather :( attached is a pic of the boots but they dont look too bad in picture but look way way worse if you saw them in real life. should i keep them like this or take them to get worked on

What's the appeal of the ankle boot like pic related?

I always wear taller lace up boots (10 or 14 eye) and they feel secure around my legs, tough around my feet, and I think they look good.
When I used to wear something like pic related type of ankle boots they feel kind of flimsy, don't fir the foot as well, and aren't really much thougher or more secure than my lower sneaker shoes, I also don't like the way they look.

Ordered a pair of brown-greasy derby boots from the official Solovair website. Pic is what arrived.
I tried contacting them asking if the pics on the website are just misleading or they actually sent me the wrong boots (which are not anywhere on the website... some old collection leftovers?).

It's not that I don't like them; they still look pretty fuckin' good... it's just not what I paid for.

That's what I also thought at first, however a quick google search gave me this, which looks much more like the ones I received, reason why I got more confused. Eyelets aren't brown, the sole isn't as yellowish and the label is much greener.

Almost the same. It's more fun to kick stuff, and before fully breaking your boots in, you might feel a little pinch just behind the toe-cap. Otherwise, it's more roomy on the toe-cap but nothing else to write home about. Unless you actually need them for work. It might depend on the model of the boot, my steel-toed pair is just a basic (older MiE) 14-eyelet + steel-toe-pair, is the pair you ordered more like pic related?

I ended up getting the Crockett and Jones Northcote boots. Here is a quick pic of them next to my J.Crew Aldens that set off metal detectors. C&J uses wood shanks instead of steel, so I don't have to take my boots off when going through security anymore.

I'm a 9US in Alden's Barrie last, and I ordered a 8.5UK for the Northcote. Both are around the same width, but the C&Js are about half an inch longer due to the pointier toe.

I plan on getting some flat waxed laces just to see how they look with the blind eyelets.

You're right. If it is waxed calf it might not be able to absorb polish for a shine. Renovateur won't hurt it though and should still work to clean them and remove any dullness.

My solovair steel toes are buckling and slouching at the ankles and while the leather bending inward doesnt bother my right ankle, it's killing my tenson on my left ankle.
I tried giving them a good conditioning with mink oil to soften the leather but it did jack shit

How big is the toebox on the Iron Rangers when compared to other Red Wing boots?

It's definitely larger than the Beckman toe box, which is in turn bigger than the Wolverine. I bought wolverines after looking at Beckmans and iron rangers because I wanted a cheap boot that was sleek but would look good beat to hell in a few years. The only other boots I can think of in that category are Thursday's various models which I'm pretty sure also use chromexcel leathers but I went for wolverines because I've heard that Thursday qc is hit or miss and I found a pair of wolverines for $200 (same price as Thursdays)

Memeboots are not ergonomic at all. Tying them up is a pain in the ass compared to boots with real speedlacing or even the ones in you pic and you can't wear them without tying them up, so if you have to take your boots off during the day you're going to spend at least 2 minutes fucking about with them. The leather upper of memeboots feels like the thinnest of the thin flea market handbag and flops everywhere.

Wool socks are just generally superior to cotton. I've worn my thickest wool socks with austrian meme boots in ~75 degrees and humid; my butt got sweaty in my jeans and my feet were warm but never felt sweaty. That said, when I took off my socks it smelled more like foot sweat and old leather than it usually does, but I never had a problem with it while I was wearing the boots.

Heyo I got some iron rangers but I'm not sure whether they fit too tight or in just being a pussy for the break-in period. Left foot is fine but the right foot it feels like the bend is occurring on the ball of my foot, and the bones on the ball of my foot (both big and little toe, not in between) fucking kill after walking a short distance. Feels like in walking with marbles underneath the ball of my foot.

Did I fuck up or is this normal? They're my first pair of boots so I don't really have a frame of reference.

As someone already, leather gets creased. It happens, and you're gonna have to live with that. With proper care those creases will only bring character to your boots, so just wipe them clean after every wear, use leather conditioner after 15-25 wears and whatnot. But do get shoe-trees. They won't stop creases from forming (especially on the vamp and on the ankles) but using them will keep your boots healthy. Godspeed, you.
