What are the 5 base suit patterns/colours a working man must have?
I have:
>Charcoal
>Dark blue (subtle stripe)
>Dark blue (solid)
>Black
I'm trying to pick between a medium grey, light grey, and a middle blue.

What about dark brown?

also three piece

I guess you should go light grey since you already have blue and charcoal

No three piece.

Dark brown suits are very hard to come by at least when I looked in person. Went to like six shops. I would ask for brown and they would pull out a fucking taupe khaki suit and be like this is brown.
Depends on your skin/hair color and what kind of work you do.
Light/dark brown
Light/dark blue (navy)
Light/dark grey
And also where you live. Suits aren't as common in European business culture.
Personally I like charcoal because it contrasts well with my blond hair and light skin, and it allows me to play around with shirt/tie color more than dark blue.

In my preferred order, mainly from formal to fun but there's some overlap (if I don't mention something, assume I don't recommend it for a starting wardrobe).
Pattern: Plain, birdseye, chalkstripe, windowpane, and glen check
Color: Navy, medium grey, dark blue, charcoal, and light grey
Style: Double breasted then single breasted,
I prefer double breasted, more character and more fashion forward while still being classic.
