i cut my own hair, its either a full no-guard wahl buzz all over including my beard, or i let it all out

sometimes ill buzz my beard, sometimes i wont, sometimes ill buzz just my head starting just at ear level (where my glasses sit, about a fraction below that)

or sometimes i let my hair grow out which im currently doing.

went out an bought a wet brush pro to use cause normal combs are shit for bulky hair, currently after i brush my hair back after my shower and it dries i have a marco peirre white look where its slightly curly in the back and just past the ears

and i dont use or need any product, i could use the wet brush

as far as getting the hair cut or trimmed or thinned out, i never bother, also if you need to put it in a ponytail, if you cut your bangs shorter they'll never stay put, you need the front bangs to get as long as possible as quick as possible

just to help you guys out, pic related is me about a year ago. Currently trying to get it to this length again, I wouldn't cut it before you grow it out honestly, wait till it's pretty long and then trim and get it to your desired lengths. I was and still am doing no poo if it helps.

Stop useing shampoo. When washing hair use warm water not hot. Before finishing a shower wash your hair in cold water. Then when drying hair stroke in one direction don't scruff it up. You can still use conditioner but not on the roots. One week out of the month give your self a 5 minutes scalp massage. Then repeat next month. Don't let intense heat around your hair.

Is it time to let it go? Part of me really wants to, but i love how soft it is, and since i have really thick hair, it gets nice volume. However, it's starting to get a bit unruly and i feel like it is starting to highlight my tall hairline, although part of is a pinch worried that it'll get worse if i cut it since i have such a fuck huge head. I meant the length of the hair in OPs pic, not attractiveness. I don't know where you are from, but a lot of people my age (18-24) who play uni/college sports such as futbol, lacrosse, and tennis have their hair this length. Even skaters (my brother skateboards and a lot of his friends have this length) Then again, we're all slim/athletic bodies, not some unkept lazy slobs. I believe when it starts getting shoulder length is when you have to worry about attractiveness because the length will start being compared to a girl. Then again if you are ugly, you're ugly. Whether your hair is long or short, your face will still be the same. But I would say OPs pic/hair is not even that long, maybe long for everyone who has to grow it out from a hitler youth that is posted all over this board, but in my opinion, OP pic is medium length hair.

From personal experience shampoo kind of kills my hair. I just use a conditioner maybe twice a week and put a little bit of oil in it sometimes after showering. My hair is shorter now (growing it out again) but this is what it looked like right before I got it cut.

I've been growing my hair for a little over 18 months, no haircuts since then. I'm just wondering what to do with the back. Do I cut it so it's more even with the front? Or should I just trim it up a bit, or just leave it? Also any other suggestions?

Nah I'm scared of damaging it with an iron, I am curious what it would look like though. I guess trying it out once wouldn't hurt. As far as brushing goes, I run my fingers through it to get out the tangles, I don't use a brush though. I tried it when it was shorter but it looked weird so I haven't tried that since.

Just buy some Pantene smooth heat protecting spray and spray it all over your hair before ironing. My girl uses that and I use it sometimes. It works really well. My hair only gets curly on the bottom near the back so if I have any presentations/job related events i will straighten it. Before in the south, all of my hair was wavy/curly from roots to ends.

Never been to this board but figured this would be the right place to post it rather than making a new thread.

I have long hair. It's over a foot long, little bit past my nipples. I generally ponytail it to keep it out of my face but I've noticed over the last little while that the top of my head seems to be thinning a bit. It's noticeably thinner than the back of my head, and I'm assuming it's due to the ponytail. I used to tie it tightly but now I tie it quite loose. I'm wondering if the past tightness has caused me to thin? It doesn't fit male pattern baldness, and my father and grandfather weren't bald so I'm assuming I won't be either. Should I just start leaving it down? Should I cut it? I don't want to go bald, however I do like my hair long. You can imagine the predicament.

long hair is gonna take ages to look good and the reason for that is that you need it to be quite long before you can start doing anything with it. Long hair is better on dudes when its curly. I've been growing out my hair for a couple years and desu I just keep it tied up most of the time.

I gave up trying to navigate different shampoo / conditioner brands. I hear silicone is one thing you have to avoid (and pantene)
but I've started using apple cider vinegar diluted with water as shampoo. I spray it on with an old conditioner bottle or something. then I leave it in for a little while before rinsing it out.
and I use unrefined coconut oil like a leave-in conditioner.
it's been about a week with that.
my hair is still pretty greasy most of the time but not as bad as I thought it would be, I'm waiting for oils to balance out or whatever. maybe it's just a placebo or the biotin and fish oil im taking, but I've noticed less hair coming out each day. I feel like regular shampoo was causing me to shed..
I use a wide-tooth comb during most of that routine.

The fluff is because it is too clean, and needs moisture, and damaged from overbrushing.

Less washing, maybe twice a week, scalp only. condition as usual, rinse with cold water and air dry. Comb with wide tooth when dry.

Once a week put liberal amount of coconut oil in and comb through to ends. Leave overnight, then wash scalp / condition etc as described above.

So I am growing out my hair and only in the past week or so have I been learning how to properly take care of it.

Currently my hair routine(which I only started a few days ago) is to wash my hair every 2 days, condition it every time I wash, and only use shampoo once per week(which I've been doing for months now). I try to minimize towel drying in favor of air drying, which takes hours since I do not have a blow dryer, and I live in a dorm so I will likely not get one. I currently have silicon-based shampoo, which I hear is bad, but it's nearly empty, what should I get next? I've heard that dry shampoo and conditioner are good, but I've also heard that I should minimize product usage and leave my hair as alone as possible.

Here are some pictures I took about an hour ago. I washed my hair today, will be shampooing tomorrow. Is my hair fixable or is it fucked from years of not taking care of it?

Thanks for the compliment mate. What I did to get to there at the time (like I said I cut it a couple of months ago, growing it out again) was as follows. I used to have an undercut with a hardpart. When I decided to grow it out I grew it out from the undercut before getting it cut with the intention of growing it out properly. I told my barber to cut it so it would grow out evenly. After that I only got the ends trimmed a little bit every other month.

How often do you shampoo? If you do it too much you could be drying your scalp out and then encouraging it to overproduce oil. Space it out a bit and it will be more consistent.

Wash it only when you need to, with shampoo that has Moroccan oil and no silicon. No conditioner. Don't over brush your hair, fingers are best for smoothing it out. If you have nice thick wavy hair and want it to look jagged, try tying up the top ad leaving the back down when you are just chilling out. Less product you use to your preferred length the better.
