Buy vintage workware, if there are strict safety regulations then no fashion item is worth your job. If its pretty lax, rock climbing or older vintage helmets and hard hats might give you a more worn and experienced look. If given colour choice for the hard hats, white har and orange vest will match nicely.

Make sure your clothes are clean and ironed, carry deodorant, use talc powder, keep your boots clean, and wash your face at lunch. There's no point in being fashionable at a labor job. Just be the freshest one on the crew
So do you have to wear hi vis? You can maybe just accept that it's your uniform and not care about looking cool. I worked with a (drop dead gorgeous) medical resident a few years ago who always had her hair down, until the day she was in a code and got blood and vomit in her hair. Never wore it down again.
