If you're going to wear a vest, it should be for function: when you go to work on the docks, you are often interacting with the chilly watery elements, but the sun can be hot no matter what season it is to the point where you want to roll up your sleeves even when the breeze is really nippy. Feels good when working up a sweat. Utility vests have a lot of pockets too.

Keeping the core (head and torso) warm keeps everything else warm. That's the first priority, since a core that's cold will shut down circulation to the limbs. Old saying: "If your feet are cold, put a hat on." It works.

I really only like them with denim jackets like in pic related. My uncle got me one for Christmas but it is super big since he only sees me once a year or so and he assumed I was still fat

I used to hate them, but I got one at the start of the year and its super comfy. Quite easy to look like a mum though so you need to choose the other layers more carefully.
