everywhere i go in this goddamn city, half the people dress like children.

oversized cargo shorts paired with flip flops and crocs, ugly white new balance shoes, oversized vineyard vines shirt, athletic shirts that are too long and sperries

i want to go back to the good ol days

Late 60s broke with tradition which was weakening in the 50s. Before that people wanted to look adult, respectable and there was less gay suspicion so men could be more "foppish."
The majority of people were probably never /fa/, they just dressed "normal" and there was a better kind of normal.
Today you actively have to learn to dress yourself wekk, your parents won't have the knowledge to pass down to you. People don't typically learn independently except by necessity.

The sportswear fashion craze really took off in the mid 80s.
Died a bit then came back mid 90s and grew into chavvy style for the 2000s.

They dress like children, because that's what our society is like. The media raises youth to a godlike state. As a child you have no responsibilitys, you can do what you want and you are attractive.
The result of this are grannies wearing neon coloured yogapants. Every age group dresses the same now.

I think people are supposed to grow up by necessity. By necessity I mean you get married and you have kids to look after.
People are avoiding marriage and children so the catalyst for change is not there.
Before birth control it chances are they would have been forced to make this change shortly after they became capable of impregnating/being pregnant.

Beautiful people dress well. Ugly people dress poorly. Go figure. Nothing has changed lad

People dressed like shit back then too, much less sports wear but you're seeing curated pictures from those times as well so the more aesthetic pleasing images are what you see.

Same thing happens to music. "Oh the music back then was so good. That's REAL music, you know?" Not remembering the un-measurable amount of trash music that was popular back then, that didn't age well, that no one plays it any more.
