they're not comfortable, not durable, have no special features and don't fit that much stuff at all

Depends on who is wearing it I think.

I got one because I find most backpacks uncomfortable because the straps are too wide and the bags themselves too bulky.

I got a kanken because they're smaller because they were originally children's backpacks, and they fit perfectly and have been the first backpack I've ever used to not give me back pain while also being big enough to use as a backpack for commuting to work.

But I'm a 5'0 100lbs girl, so I can see why a lot of people find them uncomfortable if they're not like the size of an 11 year old.

Fjallraven does bills themselves as outdoor gear company. Can't attest to hot top of the line their bags are, but their jackets are good for hiking and camping.
