I just shaved. Beards are cool tho.
>>
My beard growth is similar to kit harington's, you know, without much volume. Should I let it grow out and hope that it looks more full in the future or just keep it short?
>>
>>12642001
How old are you?
Is this the first time you're growing out a beard?
What products are you using, if any at all?
>>
>>12642048
21, I've grown it before but only until the length of the picture. I never used products since I always considered it too short to actually require the use of them.
>>
I'm 23 and everytime I let it grow I get sort of a Keanu beard.
Lately it's been growing just a couple of new hairs but veeeery slow

My dad can grow a full beard. So do I still have hope and time to wait? Or I just didn't got the same genetics?

Do you anons went through the same?

It might not fully fill out yet at that age.
Try growing it out for a few months, keeping the neckline and cheeks trimmed. If it hasn't reached the desired density by, say, four months in it'd be best to trim the length back to about 9-13 mm.
I'd recommend using a beard oil which makes the hair more manageable, looking nicer and looking fuller (and darker). It also keeps the skin underneath moisturized and healthy in case you want to shave it off. Depends on your skin type obviously, but some people get flaky skin when they shave off a beard (the beard hairs absorb the oil from your skin if they don't get moisturized enough).
I personally really like pic rel. It works as oil (moisturizing) and balm (hold/styling) at the same time. If there's no place near you selling specialized stuff or you don't want to commit too much money to it yet, coconut oil works good too.
>>
>>12642111
Don't worry about it yet. Friend of mine couldn't grow more than a few hairs on his upper lip at 22. Now at 27 he goes from clean shaven to full hobo in a couple of weeks. It's different for everybody.

>tfw no matter how long you grow your beard you can't hide your whole face behind it
I need some more distractions from this trainwreck. Thinking about a sidecut or getting my ears pointed at this point.
>>

I like your freckles. Clean up your cheeks though, you look like a wahhabist, and it won't stop you from growing out.

>>
>>12642187
Something long and narrow is going to help balance out your big dickhead. Don't trim the sides, just balm them and brush down and in. No idea what's going on with your mustache, but if it doesn't connect to your beard, keep it off the lip.
>>
>>12642209
21
i agree the stache is pretty nasty mate, i cant get the cleft to connect i was debating trimming the sides
>>
>>12642205
The beard is working its magic on you. I'm a chinlet and have no neck (not a doublechin/waddle, it's literally just 2" long). I feel miserable from weightloss (30lbs down, 30 to go), so your comment did help perk me up a bit. Thanks.
>>
>>12642212

>>
>>12642213

I'm 23 and I'm this anon >>12642111

I would suggest to try to keep it symmetrical. If your beard is well fill but your stache's weak it would look bad.
>>
>>12642230
What did you trim? Your pic looks like you just ran scissors along the bottom, which is the exact opposite of what you should be doing.
>>
>>12642224
Hey man, if one can't see your chin and neck then their bad traits may as well not exist. Don't feel bad about them. If you feel bad from weightloss though, slow it down, I'm cutting about 0.8kg a week right now and I feel fantastic. Make sure your caloric deficit doesn't exceed 25% of your TDEE to not damage your health.

I'm on a good discipline streak, so I'm absolutely fucking my body while I've got the willpower. I'm running a 15,000cal/week deficit until my body starts shutting down. Been at it about 2 months now, and thank fuck I don't have a social life or regular job, because I just spent the last 4 days in bed. I'm trying to cut muscle mass, too, because my BMI was 36 with 21.5% bodyfat in the submersion tank, so fat is only about half of what I'm trying to lose.
>>
>>12642277
My dude, that's not a willpower thing, that's self-harm. Stop. I've been cutting for months now, do it every year and have no willpower issues ever. Slow and steady wins the race. Spending 4 days in bed is your body shutting down.

>>
>>12642285
Might not want to go with a side profile, but you've got respectable bone structure, so your beard can be overlooked while it fills out.

>>12642290
Multi-colored beards usually look better the more they're grown out. Mine is blonde, red, brown, and black, and I usually get compliments on it when girls get close-up.
>>
>>12642293
I mean it's your life, but I think you will regret it when you look back on these days once you're older.
>>
>>12642311
>Multi-colored beards usually look better the more they're grown out.
I'll think about it. Is there some well-respected resource or wiki I can read for beard growing basics? The sticky wiki just tells people to shave.
>>
>>12642320
Most beard care products are about 60% on track, and 40% shilling, so read through a dozen of those, and look for the overlap.

Your main concern should be why you're growing it. If you're trying to be a e s t h e t i c you're going to be lathering up in products 3 times a day and never without a comb, mirror, and balm in your manpurse. If you're growing it as an element of your masculinity, then if you have to style it, you can't grow it. Oil it after washing, and boar bristle brush it to keep it neat.
>>
>>12642117
Peppered beards can be effay if you have an attractive face.
>>
>>12642356
Thanks mate, I'll look into it.
>>
If I'm 27 and can't grow a beard will I ever be able to?
It comes in decently on my chin and upper lip, and it grows on my sides, but my cheeks are patchy as hell. Like embarrassingly patchy.
I always think I want to grow a beard and get a week in and have to shave it, I can't go out in public with that patchy shit and still have my peers respect me.
>>
>>12643026
Maybe not. Work with what you've got, and take a camping trip once a year to see if that's changed at all.

>>
>>12643294
Hard to say because that depends on so much. Your age, genetics etc. Generally speaking the younger you are the more likely it is that it will. Some mens' beards don't reach full potential until they're in their 30s or even later. Just work with what you have for now and try not to stress over it.

I got a big full beard. the mustache connects . I notice come guys don't have this.

I always think about cutting it down . but then when I go out to a bar/club/party I get compliments and guys liking it. My skin is fair so there is a stark contrast between my skin and beard. looks pretty cool.

its a bitch to maintain tho. and beard oil sucks and makes my neck itch.

I take a bunch of supplements for the gym. big multi vitamin. and biotin helps. I also workout so I'm sure thats helping.

This is my first time growing out my facial hair past a week. I just passed the 1 month mark a few days ago.

I grew it out because I felt that I could use something to balance out the eyebrows. At this point I feel like its time to start reining it in a little. Generally speaking I shouldn't let the mustache curve over my lips right?

Also, can I get by with just using argan oil as a beard oil? I'd rather not feel like a cunt buying into le beard culture and just use something I already have on hand.

>>12644101
Yeah, I've been really conservative with the brow plucker in fear of fucking my shit up but I'll get spicier next time.
>>
>>12644074
Looks solid.

Argan oil works fine, but most other leave in hair syrums work fine for beards. I use a 6oz bottle of some OGX shit and it'd last me a year with a beard that length for around 7 dollarydoos. It opens up your options on fragrance and residue.

For the mustache, keep in mind you're going to fuck this up your first few times on your own. After you wash and towel dry your mustache, brush it straight down, then from there, pick either scissors, or an electric trimmer with no spacer on it, whatever you're most comfortable with, then just go from the middle of the top lip down to the corner of the mouth along the lip line. You'll get the angles wrong pretty often starting out, but it's a lot easier to balance out at your length. The reason you did it right after washing is as it dries, it'll shrink off the lip line, making it more defined, like you actually gave a fuck.
>>
>>12644131
Two fingertips wide is a good estimate for eyebrow gap in the West starting out.
>>
So, does beard oil or something help you grow your beard thicker? Or is that all just false advertisement?

For the next 4 months I'm working in an environment in which I don't have to look like A HUMAN BEING, and in theory I could let it grow like the mother nature made us, so here's a question: how fucked am I with that beard, do you think I should let it grow or should I cut it back to 4mm like I normally do?

First time committing to growing a beard. In the past I've tried one or two weeks to test the growth, but it always looked embarrassingly patchy, but each time I could see it was doing better. 24 now, after just a week I feel confident that with time it will actually look decent.
Obviously everyone has a different rate of growth, but when should you trim the neckline?

This is basically the longest I let it grow before getting embarrassed. Should I even bother trying to let it grow out or is it still just too patchy?

Also I'm 21, if that matters. Hopefully It'll fill out a bit more with time.
>>
2 questions
1. The hair grows faster on my neck then my cheeks, should I use a guard-trimmer and try and give the cheeks a head start?
2. Any tips on finding the neckline? Concerned I'll fuck it up.
>>
>>12651206
I'm 24 and you're similar to me at the moment - after 2 weeks. You actually have it a little better on the cheeks than me.
idk if that's your bed hair, but the messy look isn't working. Style it homie.
>>
>>12651260
okay that's reassuring to hear, and yeah my hair's pretty fucked there. It gets pretty curly when I let it grow out a bit, which is generally how I keep it.
>>
>grew beard because fat with double chin
>lose weight
>beard is too comfy to get rid of
>>
>>12651255
1) That's pretty normal. Until the cheeks reach about half an inch, just shave the neck. If you're going for a long beard, you'll only need to use the guard trimmer a few times until the neck hair is just filling out the cheek hair.
2) Feel for the jaw bone, and shave or trim on the inside of it above the soft tissue the whole way around. It's much more forgiving than trying to trim on the forward facing parts of the jaw, since you're rarely going to be looking straight up in public.

First time attempting to grow a beard and I know it looks bad. School starts on monday, and I'm trying to decide if I should just give up and shave it or if it's worth it trying to grow it more. At this rate I doubt I'll ever get there, but this is also the first time I try it so I thought I would ask here to see if there's anything that can save me. Shave for now and when you hit 40-50 years old just pull a around the mouth goatee beard and you're set.

There are stressful net negatives to having a beard that is so long you can braid it. Even with the assumption that you are well groomed and maintained, there are regular annoyances that will get to people eventually. They've gotten to me. I've got an 18” braid on my face and I wanna lop it off like a dishonored samurai.

The first one is that you pretty much have to braid it. Otherwise you spend more time fiddling with it- when you put on your seatbelt, when you drink water from a fountain, when you put on a shirt and many other annoying scenarios. To imagine this, tape a foot-long piece of yarn to your face and go about your daily life. It can be coped with but the effect is like having to manage a floppy tail on your face.

If you shower every day, you can't wash your beard every day. If your face gets wet, the scalp will dry out. And this leads to itchiness. Jojoba oil is the best solution to face moisture. Use too much and you'll feel slimy for a couple days, and maybe notice the slight odor of oil. Use too little or none at all and you get dandruff on your face, paired with a persistent itch. Worst case scenario, you can put lotion on your face, just part the hair and rub it into the skin. But the fact that things got that bad, and will probably get to that point again, is aggravating.

Occasionally you might notice someone taking a picture of you. This is fucking creepy in any case but be aware that a big beard increases the likelihood.

A novelty that tends to wear off starts around the 6 to 9 inch mark. This is when people stop calling you Grizzly Adams because you look like you've joined ISIS. Even if you're impeccably groomed, you are now peer to the Amish. This is where the unrelenting battery of questions from strangers begins (and I'll list every one of them, there aren't many):

(1/2)
>>
Cont'd

>“How long have you been growing that?”
You will never forget the answer to this question, because it takes precedence over “hello”. If you cross paths with a lot of strangers, one in every ten people you speak with will ask this.

>Some variant of “that's a nice beard.” (Often paired with question 1)
I realize that it sounds borderline aspergian to complain about receiving compliments, but when you continue to hear the same thing over and over and you're forced to respond to strangers by giving them a wave, or saying thanks, or something- there are gonna be times where you don't really want to deal with people, and you just ignore them, and they try to start shit. I am not making this up. This is a literal worst case scenario that you may begin to dread.

>”Wow, that long in only X years?”
Response to this is generally “Yeah, sounds short but have you ever tried it?” This question betrays a person’s odd ignorance of the fact that hair grows if you leave it alone. They will inevitably tell you that they grew their beard out for 3-6 months and that it either got itchy or they screwed up trimming it.

>”Is that real?” / “Is that a weave?”
If you like fucking with people, this isn't the worst. Only idiots end up asking you questions like this.

>”You should donate that to kids with cancer!”
No, that's really weird. Have you ever felt a beard before?

>”What would you do if I cut that off?
I would pursue the claim in court as that is considered maiming, there is a precedent for this sort of thing, and I would be entitled to financial compensation. Literal retards will ask you this question.

I really did not intend for this to sound pessimistic and antisocial but having a “”“cool””” (read: long) beard is unpredictably stressful. I wouldn't dissuade anyone from doing it, but it can be an odd burden. Most people like the idea of a big beard rather than actually having one. It is not a boost of charisma, just a boost of attention. And because of that, you're sort of set up on a stage. Some people like the attention, I find it a bit draining for the effort involved. But I've had it for years now so I figured I'd share.

There are some positives.
>free beer, rarely
>black women love beards, if you're down with the brown
>hands-free storage for pens and pencils
>if you turn around quickly you can hit people in the face with it

Feel free to ask anything you're curious about.

Damn not that's quality, both the beard and the post.

I myself love the beard as much as the next guy but I could never let it go that long, my max length for a beard would be around pic related.

I can only imagine how it looks when its not braided up lol.

Scissor trim, 1/2" on the sides, 2" on top.

Depending on your initial weight, it might thin your face a bit which can effect the look. Having a beard that is combed line with your face also helps with this.

Changes in weight in general won't make much of an impact but proper diet and hair care will.

Kindly ignore the clear fatigue and ill-fitting Fred Perry polo please, anyways; I've ran Kirkland 5% 1ml twice a day for 3 months now. Pic related taken just now, I had literally nothing when I began.

Stats; 26, half Italian half Irish, never grown facial hair due to getting dealt the crappy hand in terms of hair genetics I assume. All males prior in the family have grown decent facial hair. So far I'm pleased with just having slight growth. Better than nothing.

>tfw 19 and still can't get stubble on the cheeks.

There's a stray hair here and there but I can't even grow a 5'o clock shadow. Even then, my moustache and chin hair grow to a very poor length.

You can lose weight on the beer and pringles diet, doesn't mean your providing your body with essential nutrients.

My shit was growing since I was 15, and when I went to culinary school the teachers requested us there to be clean shaven all the time and with nice trimmed haircuts so I was shaving all the time for school.

Now at 22 my shit grows like I'm 40. In a month I have a full on bushy beard.

If at 19 nothing is growing for you then I'd say don't hope too much for it but maybe its just my genetics so who knows, don't loose hope.

yo real talk, how has growing a beard affected your sex life? i have always kept my beard at like dense 5 o clock shadow levels and the girls i hook up with always say they like how it feels. kinda concerned that if i grow it out it'll be hella scratchy and thus get laid less. oh and by girls i hook up with i mean my body pillow

My clippers came today so I got a bit too excited and rushed trying to trim it.

Before it was messy/unkempt and look liked some sort of ISIS beard, but at least it was thick and filled out.
I ran the #6 trimmer through it and it was the epitome of pube face. Had to shave it off.

Do I just need to wait a while? (early twenties atm). Everywhere said running a clipper through with a guard is what you have to do, but it ended up really patchy. I've tried looking at youtube and every single video is people with already styled beards pretending to style them.
