There are a bunch of variables. Sunlight , climate, temperature, humidity, are you forgetful, etc? Cacti are fairly resilient if you get enough sun, even jungle variants will work if you don't, just don't over water them. Succulents are also easy to care for, but are a little more finicky (in my experience). I suggest actually going to a local florist/plant shop and asking the owner for recommendations based on what I mentioned above.

Experiment too. I have some weird tropical plant, that on paper should have been a bitch to care for, but it's in better shape than my dracaena and pothos. I also had a fern die in two weeks for some fucking reason when kept in optimal conditions. Shit happens. Also independent shops are great for nice pots.

I thought I had one of those guides for low light or easy care plants, but I can't find it. I'm sure another anon can help out. Some of the common ones are spider plants, golden pothos, acera palm, dracaena, dieffenbachia, snake plants, most ferns, among others. I've heard those fiddle leaf fig things are easy to care for too.

I have next to no bugs in my place and I have a bunch of plants. They don't magically show up in your house once you have a certain number of plants. Do you think they just spawn randomly in pots?

When I moved in my place had almost exclusively that colour or slightly more brown walls. It's disgusting irl.

>>12619553
Just cover the walls with art and/or shelving. No one will notice the colour.
>>
>>12619592
if thats an accurate rep in the photo it looks almost exactly like my houses color. my floorboards are way lighter though. i "break" it up with natural stuff - varying hard wood furniture and white painted wood for other stuff. i also work with it by having similar colored suede furniture. plants of course help, your desk plant probably isnt enough. large ones really look swell. light blue coloring actually looks nice too.

now that i notice wtf is up with the Jamaican (?) flag? chuck a wool rug over it.
>>
>>12619553
that floor is really cool,
who did that painting on there?
>>
>>12619634
Considering it's waxed over and the guy can't even paint his walls, it probably got put in by the original owner or something.
>>
>>12619563
>>12619564
It seems pretty harmless when you first see it, but it just manages to absorb natural light in odd ways and coordinate poorly with most things. Thinking about maps instead of black and white prints?
>>12619592
How would you feel about a pegboard on the one really open wall to hold tools and things? I live in a studio and space is tight
>>12619634
The building is an art deco from the 20s that originally had art studios in it, owners converted them to actual studios. I'm assuming a painter was set up in my studio. I love the floor, one of the biggest reasons I chose to live there

>>
>>12619711
yeah maps would be nice too. from what they others said a couple of large plants would also be very good. what you want is something on/next to the walls that's also a fairly muted colour that will water down that brown. so b&w, neutrals, light blue, pastels, i think all would go nicely. as for plants something like with thin, light leaves like an areca, ficus alii or dracaena palm.

Honestly, if you show your landlord a reasonable neutral color you'd prefer and promise to use whatever painter he hired, he'll probably be fine with it.
In my experience, the no paint rules are mostly to prevent stoners from ruining the floors and baseboards with their bright blue shite. If you make the case that you care about the property and that it won't cost the landlord time or money, he'll be reasonable.

it depends where. they all look like older buildings that were pretty interesting to begin with that were then refurbished and decorated really nicely. You'd almost only find them in / around urban areas or maybe in suburbs where they still have in-tact housing stock from the 30's-50's that you can gut and then refurbish. It honestly depends where you're looking. A place like this in LA, NYC, London, other big global cities would cost an absolute fortune, most likely, especially if its already refurbished and really nice. You could probably find a run-down warehouse loft to fix up in places like Providence, Buffalo, etc. for really cheap and at a somewhat reasonable price in cheap-ish cities like Philly or something. Its just hard to find places that have the bones to be made into something nice like this. The house itself has to already have character. The reason why you can't make this in a typical middle class american suburb is all the housing stock in those areas is generally pretty ugly / uninteresting or brand new and really tacky. There'll likely be a few rare gems capable of being made into something cool like this in most areas with older housing stock, generally speaking. However, you need to have the money to refurbish them and the know-how to actually make the property look nice and not like a property-brothers-ass house flip.
