mqs academic reputation is actually pretty horrendous. Units are run to be very cost effective. Unless you're doing B.comm you're genuinely better off at western sydney.

Not that guy, just wanted to point out that though English isn't easier, it is one of the more difficult degree subjects to get first in with maths being the easiest.
Countrywide most STEM degrees have a 20%+ rate of firsts with maths at 30%+.

Nothing to do with difficulty of material - Law has the lowest rate of firsts in the country - but instead how marking classification schemes are usually written. Where maths is generally correct or incorrect and there's a definite yes or no and I knew people at uni who would get well into the high 90s as final grades for modules because it was possible if you worked hard and studied what you needed to study.

For English it's a lot more subjective which means the marking criteria generally requires work to be of publishable quality to get above around 85. I did English and didn't meet a single person the entire time I was at uni who got anything above an 83.

It's nothing to do with it being a more difficult or easy subject, just that the marking criteria for more subjective degrees tends to require more to get into the higher ends of a first.

It's a weird statistic because I would never say my degree was harder than a STEM degree, but there's basically a ceiling for a lot of arts/humanities degrees. I asked a lecturer of mine once if they'd ever given a grade above 90 and they said they never had, the best they'd ever given was an 87 and that was an essay that was immediately sent to a journal to eventually be published. They said they would never give a 90 because nothing ever meets the standard set for 90-100, even their own published articles they wouldn't be able to award 90s.


And that's where the difference lies. It's not that the degrees are more difficult, it's that the marking criteria tends to fuck over a lot of degree subjects.

there's tons of jobs in town to pick up. even if you have no experience, you should be able to find something. places on main street are always looking for people.

besides that, there are on-campus jobs that you can get, like the gym, library, mitchell art gallery, dining hall (you dont want this one), buildings & grounds (you don't want this one), boathouse, etc. you apply for a campus job in the career services office in pinkney, then they will get you a job when they can.
