GTH Pants are definitely not haram. Nantucket reds and madras pants/shorts are some of the most iconic parts of the prep wardrobe.

I personally have no problem with darts (get rid of the bagginess for a more modern fit), but the recent trend that collars have taken needs to be stopped. It's the reason I recommend Mercer and Sons so highly.

If they don't want a formal wedding (which they probably should) then you don't have to, but I'd suggest dressing business casual (real business casual, e.g. casual suit or jacket and odd trousers) or business formal any way.
