What's some headgear ideas for longer-ish hair?

I'm growing my hair out but it's at that awkward stage where it isn't short enough to be manageable but isn't long enough to tie back.

I'm used to going outside with a hat on but it's looking a bit ridiculous. If I wear a baseball cap then there's just literally pounds of hair spilling out of the side like guts.

So I started wearing a beanie but it looks even worse because it looks like there's a tail of fake hair stuck to the back sticking out. I tried tucking all the hair into the beanie but then I looked like a cancer patient.
What other options are there?
